It*s a familiar cycle: young kid joins a boyband, becomes a teen heartthrob, band breaks up, kid gets a new look, and tries the solo route. Very few artists have been able to rise above their gimmicky pasts—and whether or not you loved N*Sync or Jonas Brothers or Backstreet Boys as a kid, you know the initial struggle to take anyone seriously as a solo artist is hard.
For those who don*t know, the Jonas Brothers broke up in October, and the youngest of the trio, Nick Jonas, is starting fresh and going the solo route. He*s reportedly starring in DirecTV’s mixed martial arts drama Kingdom, he*s now signed to Island Records, and is prepping a ton of new music, which he*s teased on his Instagram. Today, we*re premiering his new Jason Evigan-produced song called “Chains."
“Everyone has their own chains, in life and in love, that bind them and this song embodies that feeling,” he said in an email. “I’m excited to be back to share this song with the world.”

Listen to Nick Jonas’ new song ‘Chains’! Nicky Jonas sings: ‘Gave you my heart, but you took my soul. You got me in chains, you got me in chains for your love.’ The song was written by Jason Evigan, Amar Malik and Danny Parker.
Nick told E! News: ‘I found my way to connect to the song. I found it was really true and real. For me, it embodies that feeling of being trapped in a love that is kind of doomed. It can be tough to sing about difficult relationships.
Part of my process of writing & making music is that it helps me not feel that way anymore. You get it out of your system. Some people write in journals, some people talk to somebody. For me it’s making music. I think it’s a helpful way to process things.’
