L'attore e regista Alan Rickman riceverà il premio Francois Truffaut il prossimo 23 luglio al Giffoni Experience come annunciato oggi dal direttore del festival Claudio Gubitosi. Rickman, vincitore di un Golden Globe, un BAFTA, un Emmy ed un SAG, è meglio noto ai giovani di tutto il mondo per il ruolo di Severus Piton, il mago mezzosangue della fortunata saga di Harry Potter.
Artista eclettico, a suo agio sia a teatro che sullo schermo. Attualmente è a lavoro sulla post produzione di A Little Chaos, il suo secondo film da regista con Kate Winslet e Matthiah Schoenarts. Rickman è anche co-sceneggiatore e vi appare in un piccolo ruolo.
Nato e cresciuto a Londra, Inghilterra, Rickman ha studiato alla Royal Academy of Dramatic Art ed ha lavorato con diverse compagnie di teatro sia di repertorio che sperimentale in UK. Nel 1987 riceve una nomination ai Tony award a Broadway per la sua performance in Les Liasions Dangereuses della Royal Shakespeare Company in cui interpreta il visconte di Valmont. Tra i suoi lavori teatrali anche Private Lies (Tony nomination), John Gabriel Borkman, Hamlet, Seminar, The Winter Guest di cui cura la regia e l'adattamento cinematografico con Emma Thompson.
Debutta al cinema con Die Hard. Tra gli altri titoli di rilievo sul grande schermo che spaziano dalla commedia al musical al drama: Truly, Madly, Deeply, Ragione e Sentimento (BAFTA nomination), Love Actually, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, per il quale vince un BAFTA, Galaxy Quest, Sweeney Todd e Alice nel paese delle meraviglie del regista Tim Burton, the Hitchhiiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, e più recentemente, The Butler di Lee Daniels.
Rickman ha vinto un Emmy, un Gloden Globe ed un Sag award per il suo ruolo in Rasputin della HBO. Tra i suoi lavori televisivi ricordiamo The Barchester Chronicles della BBC e l'acclamato Something the Lord Made della HBO.

The Giffoni International Film Festival is the largest children’s film festival in Europe, and possibly the World. It takes place in the little Italian town of Giffoni Valle Piana in Southern Italy, close to Salerno. Over 2,000 children attend the festival from 39 countries around the world. During the festival, the children and teenagers watch the films, learn about the filmmaking process, and are called to judge them and award the best ones with prizes.

Actor and director ALAN RICKMAN will receive the 2014 Francois Truffaut Award on July 23 July at this year’s Giffoni Experience, it was announced today by the Festival’s director Claudio Gubitosi. A Golden Globe, BAFTA, Emmy and SAG award-winning actor, Rickman is perhaps best known by younger audiences worldwide as the half-blood wizard, ‘Severus Snape,’ in the hugely successful Harry Potter film franchise.
The multifaceted artist is equally at ease on stage or screen. He is currently in post-production on A Little Chaos, his second feature film as director, which stars Kate Winslet and Matthias Schoenaerts. Rickman also appears in the film and co-wrote the screenplay.
Born and raised in London, England, Alan Rickman studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and worked with various British repertory and experimental theatre groups in the UK. In 1987, he earned a Tony Award nomination for his performance on Broadway as the Vicomte de Valmont, in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses. His extensive theater credits include Private Lives(Tony nomination), John Gabriel Borkman, Hamlet, Seminar, and he directed The Winter Guest both on stage in London and as a feature film adaptation starring Emma Thompson on screen.
Rickman made his feature film debut in Die Hard.
