John Doe nightmares on Kiera’s couch, bringing her running. What was he dreaming about? He babbles: “Blue like little jewels,” and starts talking about his daughter and generally making no sense. He’s flipping out trying to reconcile his future and his present. The sky is so bright. It should be dark. The lights are usually off. “Why?” asks Kiera. JD: “Because it’s dangerous!”
Alec has a breakthrough with the tech stolen from dead Kiera’s head. Jason notes that it’s tech Alec invents far into the future, then cheerfully says he wants to be first to test the new-and-improved Halo.
Carlos goes to the Kiera cooler and finds her corpse is gone. He knows who’s responsible: “That little shit!”
Dillon thinks on Betty. Flashback: He’s interviewing her for the job. “I am strictly white hat,” she claims. Dillon introduces her to Carlos. She’s smitten! Back to Dillon now: He chats with Kiera. He wants to nail Liber8 bad.”I did something terrible: I pushed my daughter out there as bait,” he says. She was released last week, and he can’t get to her. Kiera has to find her. “Cameron, no more Betties,” he says.
Carlos leaves a threatening message for Alec. Kiera reviews Liber8, and they’ve been targeting members of the Global Corporate Congress. There’s one company they haven’t hit yet: Gautuma will invent adaptable biopharmaceuticals and dominate the market. Kiera and Carlos go for a visit.
Liber8 has implanted a watcher at the small company who calls and warns Lucas that Kiera and Carlos are there. He takes it to Sonya.
Robin Gautuma (Jennifer Copping) gives Kiera and Carlos a tour. She tells them about their work on an A
lz
heimer’s drug. She wonders why Liber8 would want to hinder progress there. Good question.
Paraminder introduces new-and-improved Jason to Alec. “It’s like a fog lifted,” Jason says, coherently with no stuttering or muttering. “The chip — it integrates better than we ever dreamed,” Alec says. Downside: If they tell how Halo helped Jason, people will start asking a bunch of uncomfortable questions.
Gautuma’s not ready to go public with drug trials, Carlos says. Kellog’s been buying up Gautuma stock. Kiera’s going to go see him. While reviewing recent hires at the company, they discover Dillon’s daughter, Christine, is the embedded watcher. Carlos wants to keep her in there because she’s their last, best hope. Kiera isn’t sure. She needs to think on it.
Carlos calls Alec a “bodysnatching little ghoul,” on the phone. Alec wants to have a service. Carlos should sit tight.
Alec goes to a secret society meeting of old, white guys in suits. They tell him, “slow your roll.”
Kiera finds Kellog at lunch. Kellog says he knows Gautuma is going to blow up (not literally), and his stock is going through the roof. Kellog was no help, except he thinks the Alzheimer’s drug is something he’s seen before.
At her apartment, she tells JD not to fire up his dog-tag hologram. It’ll alert a group of people (the Freelancers) he does not want to meet. He’s getting frustrated.
Sonya picks up Christine in the rain. “Do you know who I am?” Sonya asks. Christine is nervous. Sonya tells her that if she intended to hurt her, Christine wouldn’t have seen her coming.
Kiera tells JD that the sentimental crap he’s remembering may be the way back to his full memories. “If they haven’t been born yet, then we haven’t had a chance to leave them,” Kiera says, trying to make him feel better about missing his half-remembered family. She says she thought she might be hurting her future family by having traveled back in time, but it’s just as likely that she’s protecting her future son by being there now. She feels something in JD’s cuff. It’s a key to a bank safety deposit box. Curious.
At the office, Kiera watches footage of JD accessing the safety deposit box. Kiera tells Carlos they need to get a sample of the Gautuma drug.
“It’s like getting a wedgie from the Fortune 500.” Alec sa
ys, complaining about his meeting. Kellog: “Leave the Star Chamber crowd to me.” Kellog suggests Alec knows a “rock star” to help him get the public to accept Halo …
Continuum: ep 310 Julian (Syfy)Julian gets a visit from Sonya with Dillon’s daughter in tow. He brings them to the basement to show her a document he’s been working on.
Alec also visits Julian while Sonya and Christine are in the basement. He just wants to talk.
Carlos visits Robin Gautuma and asks who in her family needed the Alzheimer’s drug — in other words, he’s stalling. Meanwhile, Kiera has used her supersuit to get into the samples to find out if this drug is what becomes the street drug Flash, which Liber8 put on the streets in the first place.
Alec asks Julian to get involved in Halo, but Julian says no: “I see why it’s good for you. I don’t see why it’s good for me.” His title: vice president of social responsibility. Alec gives Julian a file: “Having a corporation working for you can be very useful.”
Sonya says Julian’s document is raw and rough, but “it’s Theseus.” Julian says, “It’s me.”
The Freelancers have summoned Kiera, and she’s not happy about it. They have some questions. Kiera wants to see the device she brought them. No deal. “You have a visitor — how do you know him?” Warren asks Kiera. She doesn’t answer and their parting is not amicable.
Carlos calls Alec. There’s supposed to be a memorial. Alec delays.
Sonya drops off Christine, who says her daddy has soured on “the public.” Liber8 revealed who he really is, says Christine — maybe laying it on a bit too thick, because Sonya responds, “If you betray us, I will slit your pretty throat myself.”
Kiera tells Dillon that his daughter is embedded at Gautuma. Dillon wants to leave her in. The drug will help tens of millions of people, he says. Kiera: By repurposing a street drug that came straight from Liber8. Kiera does not like his reaction. Christine is not trained for espionage.
Kellog brings wine over to Kiera’s apartment: “I got your call.” Kiera: “It wasn’t that kind of call.” She gives him a document and implies that she’d like him to get it to Liber8. JD walks through the room. Kellog’s face: Who the hell? Kellog takes his wine back. JD: “Was that Matthew Kellog? … I have this vague memory that he’s a big deal.” Kiera: “Bigger than Alec Sadler?” JD: “Who’s Alec Sadler?” That’s worrying. Is JD from another timeline? One in which Alec is not the corporate titan he is in Kiera’s?
Continuum: ep 310 Julian, Alec (Syfy)Back at the office, Alec gets a video call. It’s Julian. He has some demands …
Kiera gets a call from Carlos. The drug is Flash. It looks like a miracle cure, but the cost of addiction and ruined lives isn’t worth it. Kiera picks up Christine.
Kellog calls the Star Chamber: “We will burn you down.” Then he sits with Sonya and discusses the document from Kiera. Continuum: ep 310 Sonya, Kellog(Syfy)Gautuma is going to have a terrible quarter, btw.
Jason works on a drawing and starts losing his mind. I dub it: “Halo hangover.”
In the lab, Alec gets a data stream from dead Kiera’s supersuit: JD killed her!
Gautuma’s stock price is plummeting, Dillon says. Christine appears in the door. Kiera says she’s not much good as bait anymore (now that she’s been seen at the precinct). “No more Betties, sir,” she says on her way out. Christine is sorry she let him down. Dillon assures her she hasn’t.
Alec calls. He needs to see Kiera: “Are you coming to the send-off?” Carlos didn’t tell her. Alec: “It’s a service for the other you.” Kiera looks at Carlos: “Is there somewhere we need to be?” Carlos: Mmmm … yes.
Alec brings them to Escher’s lab. The complete device allows for time travel, but the pieces allow you to do something else: It can open a portal, and the body will be annihilated. Alec says goodbye, Carlos says “So long, partner.” Live Kiera looks offended, so Carlos tells her he’s really glad she’s still there. Basically, corpse Kiera gets zapped to everywhere in every time in atoms.
Excusing them from Carlos, Kiera calls out Alec on digging tech out of deceased Kiera’s head and then putting together this little service to hide his actions from Carlos. She can’t stand to look at him. What did you want anyway? Alec says it was nothing. But he’s keeping a killer secret.
Continuum: ep 310 Kiera (Syfy)Back at her place, Kiera gives JD the drug Flash. He remembers: My name is Brad Tonkin. He’s a field commander in the militia. He remembers his wife and daughter. “I know why I came back,” he tells Kiera. He volunteered — because everyone’s dead.
Continuum airs Fridays at 10/9 C on Syfy.
