X Factor winner James Arthur has been dropped by Simon Cowell, to no real surprise.
However perhaps the most newsworthy aspect of the revelation is just just why Syco have finally decided to ditch the gaffe prone singer.
According to The Sun newspaper, James was given the boot after writing a rap which glamourised terrorism.
The tabloid claims that the song’s lyrics include the line “I’m gonna blow up your family like I’m a terrorist.”
James defended the lyrics, claiming they were from the point of view of a “demented fan”.
A supposed ‘music source’ told the tabloid (paid link) today: “Simon and Syco have been extremely loyal to James throughout his problems but there’s only so much they are prepared to put up with.
“It feels like the end of the road for him at Syco. James has been his own worst enemy.”
26-year-old James won the show back in 2012, mentored by Nicole Scherzinger, and released a self-titled debut album last year.
Speaking earlier this year, Simon Cowell claimed that bosses at James’ label should have told him to “shut up”.
“I think James, unfortunately, has had so many issues with what he has done publicly – which is a real issue with me,” Simon said. “Somebody should have told him to shut up and just put the records out.”
Syco declined to comment on the reports.
