2 March 2014 - Growing up...
This will be of interest to those of you who were also viewers of WildEarth's live safari drives at the Thornybush Private Nature Reserve last year.
It seems that "our" young Black Dam Male is not only growing up, but has acquired a dominant role over his earlier more dominant buddy, the Timbavati Male! Gareth Long at Waterbuck Game Lodge posted this week that the Black Dam Male has been observed mating with a Lioness from the Monwana (Northern) Pride for days now and that the Timbavati Male has been reduced to just watching from the side lines! This lovely photo shows the Timbavati Male doing just that!
For certain, the young Black Dam Male had better watch out for "Marvin"! We'd hate to think what Marvin might do to him, if he found out the Black Dam Male was playing around with one of his girls.
Waterbuck also posted a photo of a new w h i t e Cape Buffalo calf born last week. They think that there must be a recessive gene in their herds at Thornybush, because this is not the first leucistic calf to have been born there.

Waterbuck还贴出了一只上周刚刚诞生的白色的南非黑色大水牛幼崽的图片。观察者们认为在它们的种群中一定存在着一种隐性基因，因为这已经不是第一只在这里出生的白化的水牛了。
