Possibly the most impressive of Fuji's counters, the hakugei is a super slice lob with such extreme backspin that as soon as it drops down on the opposite court, it flies back to Fuji's hand. Fuji used this technique in order to counter the genius Akutagawa Jirou's "Magic Volley". But he needs wind to use the hakugei. Hakugei can be returned if the opponent is fast enough to hit the ball as it flies back to Fuji's hand, as shown by Akaya Kirihara and his one-footed split step. Kagerou Zutsumi (Dragonfly Illusion) Using both hands, Fuji brings his racket down in an overhead swing that both contains and nullifies all spin on the ball. The ball is then returned devoid of spin, and gives the other player the illusion that the ball is farther than it actually is. This counter was first revealed in Seigaku's first doubles match against Higa Chuu in the National tournament. Higa regular Hirakoba Rin employed a technique called "Habu" that had such incredible spin, ball could not be returned by any normal means.
