In Western countries, it's easier to read numbers by grouping them into triples and separating them with either commas or full stops. But who introduced such representation into China and left it as is? Every time when I read numbers in such representations in Chinese, it's bloody laborious.... The separation doesn't make a single difference.
In the context of Chinese, I prefer the following representation:
12, 3456, 7890
