Narration: Writing an account of a memorable experience
Take three minutes to make a list of all the funny or embarrassing experiences you have ever had. When the time is up, choose one item from your list and write down the details involved in this experience, such as the date, the place, the person(s), the exact event, and so on. Then, write a paragraph of 120 to 150 words by putting these details together.
Example:
Topic:An Embarrassing Experience
Writing a Scratch Outline:
Topic Sentence: It was not my day yesterday.
1. Date: yesterday
2. Place: on the way to school
3. Event: slipping and falling on the sidewalk
Writing a Paragraph:
* Topic sentence (1)
*Supporting sentences that give detailed descriptions of the embarrassing experience (2-14)
* Conclusion (15)
1It really was not my day yesterday. 2To begin with, I overslept and missed my usual bus. 3Then, as I rushed out of the house, it started to rain. 4I had no time to go back upstairs to get an umbrella, so I simply put my schoolbag under my jacket, hoping it wouldn’t get wet. 5Suddenly, I slipped and fell on the sidewalk. 6My glasses flew off. 7Though I couldn’t see that well, I knew that all the people around were looking at me. 8I was very embarrassed. 9However, the disaster didn’t end there. 10While I was kneeling on the sidewalk, trying to find my glasses, a car drove by and splashed muddy water me all over. 11Now, with the rain and mud all over my face, I could hardly see anything! 12When I finally found my glasses, they were broken. 13Wet and dirty from head to toe, I walked to school. 14When my classmates saw me, they all broke out into laughter. 15Yesterday was really not my day.
