Simon Cowell defends controversial X Factor chair twist: People love it

X Factor head honcho Simon Cowell has addressed criticism of the new boot camp ‘chair twist’, saying the fact that it’s controversial is the whole point of it.
Under the new rules on the ITV show, judges select their favourite contestants on the spot and then if they want to take further contestants through to judges’ houses but have filled up their quota, they must replace someone they’ve already put through.
‘It’s very different than anything we’ve done,’ Cowell told The Mirror.
‘This is some of the most exciting TV we’ve made on one of these shows. It is dramatic, it is controversial, but we all love that.

‘People went nuts, half loving it and half hating it.’
X Factor fans and contestants alike have criticised the new twist, with Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood calling it ‘inhumane’.
Meanwhile, Cowell says he is developing another major TV show and it’s set to launch in mainland Europe shortly.
‘I won’t say what it is because I’m very protective about it, but we’re launching the show in France and Italy before the UK and America, so that we can road test it in a different way,’ he said.
