The iconic red mittens worn by Canadians in support of their winter Olympic athletes are back. The new design was unveiled on Tuesday by The Hudson Bay Company and features some new twists on the classic design. The mitts will set you back $10.
The design was first used in the Vancouver 2010 Games and became a must-have accessory for Canadians that winter. More than 3 million pairs were sold.
Since the, HBC and the Canadian Olympic Committee have tried to capitalize on the success of the little red mittens by re-issuing them every year.
This year, the first Olympic Winter Games since Vancouver, the Sochi 2014 Olympic mittens have a slightly edgier design. The cuffs are now black and the finger tips are now white, with the simple maple leaf replaced with lettering to spell out Canada.
The new mittens are available at Hudson’s Bay and Home Outfitters. $3.33 from the sale of each pair is donated to Olympic athletes. To date, HBC claims that has been worth more than $22 million.
