New Girl will introduce the sister of Zooey Deschanel’s Jess in its third season.
However, Deschanel’s real-life actress sister Emily is unlikely to take on the role, due to her commitments to Fox drama Bones, reports TV Guide.
“I’m excited to cast the sister – I think it’ll be really fun,” said series creator Liz Meriwether. “ I have a feeling that Emily has a pretty busy schedule with Bones.”
Emily Deschanel previously admitted that she would like to appear on New Girl and had “talked” with her sibling about a guest spot.
Rob Reiner has already appeared in three episodes of the sitcom as Jess’s father, while Jamie Lee Curtis starred in a single installment as the character’s mother.
Damon Wayans Jr – who appeared in the show’s pilot as original roommate Coach – will also reprise his role in the show’s new season.
