Yes, that Jake. Jake Gyllenhaal, actor, our Spring Benefit honoree, and longtime supporter of Edible Schoolyard NYC, is taking you and your friends on a private Edible Schoolyard at P.S. 216 tour. He knows the garden well — he planted a pear tree in it at the groundbreaking ceremony in 2010. Oh, and he's staying for lunch! Famed Brooklyn restaurant Roberta's is transporting its pizza oven to P.S. 216 to prepare lunch from the garden, in the garden, for you and your guests. For up to ten people. All food costs included. No alcohol permitted.
The winning bid was $14,000.

Early last night, a crisp spring evening, New Yorkers picked up their forks in celebration of the Edible Schoolyard NYC’s recent expansion into Harlem. The industrial setting — the Essex Market — contrasted with the fresh produce and drinks on offer. Guests sipped summerlike libations (Parkside Fizz, Paris 75) and nibbled a selection of local cheeses and passed hors d’oeuvres before dinner. During cocktails, Diana Taylor and Elizabeth Leeds were resplendent in coordinating green dresses from Oscar de la Renta and Rag & Bone, respectively.
Twenty New York chefs, including April Bloomfield of the Spotted Pig and Joel Harrington of Red Rooster Harlem, prepared festive dishes for the nonprofit’s dinner enjoyed by guests ranging from the actress Abigail Spencer to the J. Crew creative director Jenna Lyons. Martha Stewart took an interest in Joaquin Baca of the Brooklyn Star’s station as he prepared his meal, which included smoked marrow and wild boar ribs. But the evening's real star was its guest honoree Jake Gyllenhaal, who said he was asked by Alice Waters to be the ambassador of the Edible Schoolyard. Gyllenhaal spoke passionately about his role, saying that he “wanted to be involved with the cause and changing food systems.” He also added: “One of my best friends is a farmer.”
