How did you guys get involved in the upcoming Dead Silence Tour with Billy Talent?
We’ve known Billy Talent for a long time now. We actually took them across Canada in 2003 before their first album came out. We’ve been talking about doing another tour together for a long time but we’re always on opposite schedules. Either we’re making an album and their touring or vise versa.
When this tour came up Ian [guitar player] who is a really good friend of mine told me they were talking about us for it and so we started the ball rolling and here we are.
Over the past sixteen years you guys have played many concerts. What
has been your most memorable moment?
That’s a tough question. I guess stuff like Reading + Leeds Festivals were great ‘cause of the amount of people. Same with Summer Sonic Festival in Japan. Selling out the Wembley Arena in London was amazing. Selling out theLe Zenith Arena is Paris was cool. We also did a song with Iggy Pop called ”Little Know It All” and got to play a few awards shows where we played that song and “Lust For Life” together and that was one of the coolest things ever.
At what point in time during your career did you feel like you made
it big in the music industry?
Thats a really tough question because of the way this industry is now. You find yourself forever trying to work harder than before. You can never just sit back and say, “well we’ve made it, I can relax now.” I have the frame of mind that we still have to do bigger and better things as a band.
Who were some musicians you looked up to?
Early days I started playing bass because the grunge scene that was happening in the early 90′s. Mainly Nirvana obviously. I was 14 and that was the big thing at the time. Then I started getting more and more into Socal Punk stuff when I started playing in Sum 41 in 1998. Now some of favorite bands are The Clash, David Bowie, and even more acoustic indie folk music as well. So I’m kind of all over the map now.
Can we expect Sum 41 to play any of this year’s Summer Music Festivals?
Not sure. We are going to tour until mid-April for sure as of right now.
