Phillip Phillips is looking for something to do.
It's a rare day off for the singer whose life has been in whirlwind mode since he was crowned the victor of the 11th season of "American Idol" in May. Following his win, he hit the road with the "Idol" summer tour, which launched in Detroit in July and played nearly 50 dates before wrapping up in September. In November, Phillips released his debut album, "The World From the Side of the Moon," which debuted at No. 4 and sold 169,000 copies its first week. Rather than falling off the charts like some recent "Idol" winners, Phillips' album has showed impressive staying power, selling nearly 700,000 copies to date.

Phillips is now on the road opening for Matchbox Twenty — the tour drops by Caesars Windsor Thursday — but when we spoke with him earlier this month, he was looking to kill some time in Thackerville, Okla., "wherever that's at," he says.
"I'm just sleeping a little bit, and maybe I'll go see a movie," says Phillips, still in bed. He hasn't been to the movies in awhile, but is looking to play catch up. "I heard 'Zero Dark Thirty' is pretty good, and I think it's called, 'Django'? I want to see that, too," he says. "We'll see if it works out."

Phillips had more time to stay current with cinema a year ago when his "Idol" journey was just beginning. The pawn shop worker from Albany, Ga., made an immediate impression on the show; he had a rootsy, acoustic-based sound inspired by — some might say modeled after — Dave Matthews. He established himself as a frontrunner early on in the season and more or less cruised to victory, beating out torch song balladeer Jessica Sanchez in the show's finale.

While he had a good run on "Idol," his final performance on the show is what kicked his career into high gear. His "Idol"-winning original song "Home" immediately struck a chord with listeners, tapping into the Mumford & Sons-led folk revival movement with its homespun sound and uplifting message. It scored prime placement during the Summer Olympics, where it was used by NBC as the theme song for the U.S. Women's Gymnastics team, and became one of the year's biggest hits, selling nearly 4 million digital copies to date.

The success of "Home" built anticipation for Phillips' debut, the majority of which was written or co-written by Phillips. "I'm proud of it; it really represents me," Phillips says of "The World From the Side of the Moon," which was recorded and mastered in three weeks in October and released in time for the holiday rush.
The pressure-filled recording sessions left Phillips with some slight regrets, but nothing major. "I still wish there was a little bit more time to maybe to do something here or there," he says, "but I think we pulled it off."

Phillips says his brain was fried after making the album, and he had difficulty writing new songs in its wake. But he had a breakthrough after heading home for a holiday break and was able to write again. "The rest really helped out, and I've been writing ever since," he says.
He has no plans to head back to the studio anytime soon, but says he wants to have songs in the can when it comes time to record his second album.

Phillips says he's having fun on the road with Matchbox Twenty, even though it's a much different experience from the "Idol" tour.
"The 'Idol' tour kind of spoils you a little bit. There's like 2,000 people there, and you kind of get treated like a king," he says. "I never tried to get used to it, because I knew real life was going to hit after that
"You've gotta work for stuff you really want, and that's how I grew up," he says. "My dad would tell me, 'Not everything's going to be given to you; you've got to work for it.' So I always kept that in mind."
跟火柴盒的巡演和之前的美偶巡演很不一样.
美偶巡演的时候PP有点被宠坏的感觉, 因为美偶的粉丝都把他当成王一样对待
但是他并木有因为被优待而自傲, 他知道之后的现实, 而且爸爸跟他讲过,你想要什么就得自己努力去争取.
(就知道得有心理落差...哎......
美偶巡演虽然是top10一起 可是PP一向是最受大家欢迎的,的确是被当king一样的
