关于mongrel的问题

mongrel是针对ruby on rails的web服务器，为什么有的教程还要加上apache组成apache+mongrel来部署发布ruby on rails。既然有了mongrel，为什么还要用apache？它们三者之间是什么关系，各自的作用是什么？

IIS是microsoft的.
nginx也不错,c\c++的.
