Today ,I would like to quote "Happy&glorious",concluding remarks by Mr.Jacques Rogge,President of the International Olympic Committee,for the London 2012 Olympic Games as the theme of my speech. "Happy&Glorious"extracts from the British National Anthem.(see appendix)

I am quite sure that you are happy to enter UNNC,and I hope you willbe happy during the following 4 years: I hope all students will have a wonderful experience in UNNC and I hope you will be rewarded by your time at university which will enable you to move towards a glorious future with confidence.What about the element of happiness?What can be defined as a "new and different experience compared with your previous life"?

Here is a passage cited from the letter of a graduate:"My days at UNNC are the most productive days in my life.The British style of education gave me a chance to get out of the confinement of the traditional Chinese style of teaching.This was my first time to embrace such a western style of education.We were required to study proactively.And during the process of probing a problem,we learnt not only the knowledge itself,but also the methods of exploring and the logic of thinking.During the process,the teacheres helpd to set your search on the right track rather than simply offering you the 'right' answers,as many topics for discussion don't have definite answers,you only need to persuade others with adequate evidence...I was deeply moved by UNNC teachers for their sense of responsibility...They did all they could to take care of every student. I rejoice at my choice to pursue my Master Degree at UNNC.Fortunitely,Igot an offer from Austrian Embassy in China through fierce competition after graduation.I adapted to the new environment easily during training as a solid foundation was laid when studying at UNNC,an English-speaking university.Moreover, the experience of working in team enabled me to blend with team work quickly."

It is a great testimony to her success,experience and her glorious life in the future.How is this achieved through education?As well as love and care from teachers and the academic atmosphere on campus,it mainly relies on your own efforts.I would like to give you some advice on how to make such efforts:

1)Try to adapt to new and different environment. It is a rare opportunity and you have to seize it! Professor Tsung-Dao Lee said:"A lot of factors demermine one's success,and among which 'opportunity' might be the most important one.But,essentially,it is also the most difficult to control."

3）To take part actively in various student societies and social practice,the so called the second classroom. In October 2010,after winning the national finals,students from UNNC had the honor of representing China to attend SIFE(Students in Free Enterprise)World Cup in America and scooped the second place among a total of more than 1,000 university teams.This is what they gainby taking part in social practice and experiencing challenges."Life breaks us all, but afterwards,many of us are strongest at the broken places."by ernest Hemingway,'The Old Man and the Sea'(1952,Nobel 1954).

4）Don't overvalue specialized subjects.Education at University should be "thorough education"and fundamental education.It may be observed,that there is no science which does not contribute its aid to professional skill."Everything throws light upon everything."[1828 Yale Report]. our graduates are likely to become outstanding in a ide range of areas.

Finally,I hope all students could have a happy university life and a glorious future.
