First, you need to have a good knowledge of the popular and not so popular drinks. It is so important to know your drink recipes. If you don’t know what to put in the drinks that your customers are going to order, then you are not going to make much money and you won’t be happy.

Second, you have to learn how to be speedy. The second asset that a bartender needs in order to be successful is speed. Speed makes a bar and a bartender more money than anything else. Think about it this way, you make 5 drinks per minute and make a dollar per drink. That is $5 a minute. If you could make 10 (I can whip out 14 a minute by the way, no beer included) you could make $10 a minute.


Third, it is important that a bartender keep up no current events and sports. These are topics of discussion that customers will bring up and when you are slow you can make your money by better quality tips from your customers. I have gotten some great conversation tips and sometimes you can make up for the lack of business with great conversation.


Last, a bartender needs to learn how to be creative enough to create new drinks. By creating new drinks you can wow your customers and make your bar and yourself a ton of money at the same time.
