From SWIMSAM:
The United States will send a total of 49 swimmers, including open water, to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. That includes 24 men and 25 women, and of those 28 are first-time Olympians.
This will also be one of the biggest roster that the United States has ever sent to the Olympics since we became limited to two spots per event. It’s significantly larger than the 43 swimmers that the United States sent to Beijing, and that speaks to increased parity with fewer athletes dominating large-numbers of events like we’ve seen in the past.
We’ll do a lot more breaking down of this roster in the coming weeks, including looking at ages and experience, so stay tuned for much more(* – first time Olympians)
