A brace of goals by Gilberto were enough to give Hertha a deserved 2-0 friendly win over the Dutch first division side Heracles Almelo on Friday. Gimenez ruled offsideHertha played well especially during the first half against the side containing the former Hertha player Rob Maas. Christian Gimenez went close with a header on five minutes and two minutes later scored from an offside position. Gilberto dream goalThe referee had no complaints on 16 minutes though, as Gilberto superbly curled a free kick around the defensive wall and past the former Rostock keeper Pieckenhagen to give Hertha the lead. Hertha continued to control the game and Arne Friedrich had two chances early on. The skipper Hertha headed just wide (18.) and then hit a post (21.). Sofian Chahed replaced veteran Dutchman Dick van Burik who had to go off with a cut. Friedrich moved to central defence with Chahed at right back. Fiedler denies Da Silva The only Almelo chance during the first half fell to Ramos da Silva, who was denied by Christian Fiedler as he fired in a shot from the edge of the box. Gimenez fired just wide of target (39.), before Fathi headed narrowly wide (43.). On the stroke of halftime, Friedrich had a shot cleared off the lone, so Hertha took a slender but well-deserved 1-0 lead with them into the break. Penalty missFalko Götz replaced Fiedler with Kevin Stuhr Ellegaard at half time. Two minutes later, the new keeper watched as his side doubled their lead. Marko Pantelic set up Gilberto who finished well with a low right foot shot into the bottom corner. The Dutch side had a chance to pull a goal back as Boateng pulled down an opponent inside the Hertha penalty area. The resulting penalty was blasted over the crossbar by Tanghe (50.). Deserved victoryHertha dropped down a couple of gears after going 2-0 ahead and Göth replaced playmaker Bastürk with Ashkan Dejagah who impressed after coming on. Stuhr Ellegaard did well to tip a Gluscevic effort over the bar (70.). Nothing much happened until the final whistle and the Bundesliga side ran out the deserved 2-0 winners. After the game, the Hertha coach Falko Götz said: "The victory will do us good. It is always nice to beat Dutch first division opposition." The Hertha line-up: Fiedler - Friedrich, van Burik (25. Chahed), Simunic, Fathi - K. Boateng (69. Ebert), Dardai, Gilberto (69. Zecke), Bastürk (58. Dejagah) - Gimenez (78. Lakic), Pantelic (58. Okoronkwo) Goals: 1-0 Gilberto (16.) 2-0 Gilberto (47.)
