I may play on, says Maldini Tuesday 5 December, 2006 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Milan legend Paolo Maldini may reconsider the idea of retiring from football at the end of the season. “I still haven’t made a firm decision,” he stated.The captain, who will turn 39 next year, has been suffering with knee problems for some time and recently confirmed that he would bring his extraordinary career to an end in June.“I haven’t decided yet,” Maldini has now told reporters. “Let’s say I am about 50 per cent sure that I will call it a day.“When you take into account my age, retirement is an option that I have to consider. “However, if I were to find the right motivation and I did not feel too much pain then I might continue,” added the seven time Serie A winner.“I have to remember that when I quit football there will be another life and I would like to live that without too many complications,” continued the Rossoneri symbol, who is in his 23rd campaign with the club, a record in Italian football.Turing to this season, Maldini was confident that a New Year would see the return of the ‘old’ Milan machine.“We have many injured players,” he added. “We still have several defenders, but we are anxiously waiting for the Christmas break so we can return in January with another spirit.”The former Italian international was also asked to comment on rumours that Andriy Shevchenko may return after his summer switch to Chelsea.“I never said I didn’t want him back, I just believe it is very difficult for many different reasons. In any case, we’re not bothered about rumours coming from outside of the club,” he concluded.
