Tom:
well, he is Anthony Hopkins, he needs it.
BC:
exactly, exactly.
Tom:
Well, he deserves it, frankly.
BC:
he does!
Tom:
Anyway, the point being, as guardian’s right-leg cowboys, I either run western
and western subtle, very comfortable and wide and deep and you have a ** and
you have to sit there and pretend to be john wen. And so I turned up on the stunt farm when we were trying it “Yeah, I think I can kind of ride.” And only to be told that it looked like Billy Crystal beginning at the city slickers.
BC:
(hehehehe, classic Sherlock’s laughter)
Tom:
(continue) hopeless, a sack of potatoes, “it’s not a motorbike, Tom, it’s a
living, breathing animal, show it some respect and pull your socks up.” So in
time, we all had a…..
BC:
we all had a Allanica(?).I have not really ridden since I was 12 which I keep
on pointing out that it was my mother would be happy after me, she facilitated
the running since we were very young. I think it’s just a capable board school
holidays and it did not really well because the horse went there very quickly.
We were equally bored or terrified or willful as I did not want to be. It was
hard work and I did not really take to it. And I was frightened to horses. I
mean not frightened to frighten, not wanting to get back on one or having bone
torn or any of that bad experiences. It was a gentle breaking and the
transition moving from that first moment into something where you are
controlling what’s going on and where you are in much more of a symbolic
relationship with an animal, was just magic. And the skill and the profound
experience that I hopefully I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
The offensive stupidity of World War 1 as the content, not as from your characters, but in terms of the way the war was run. What do you think?
Tom:
well, it’s ignorance and innocence, but there are regiment goes into it is the
desert, a legacy of military history that said it’s you are go in with
sabres, ** and son, and you cry hell
fear, you will scare them back to the B**(location) and we will be home by
Christmas. And the British military high command had no idea of the extent the
Germen technological developments and the machine guns they had. I love that
line when the Germen officers said to you like “what do you think you are doing?Who do you think you are?” It’s not a sly against major steward particularly, it’s just like you said offensive stupidity of the military. It was the end of the day of shivering and war
changed and world changed.
BC: I
will say it very quickly. Just defend it slightly because it is about military
method meeting modern mechanized warfare in the shape of machine gun. It is all
about the transition and it is exactly what I momentarily tell. And rightfully, we are judged by or they are
judged them with historical. High side has been stupid and profoundly
wasteful..

Tom:
not the Cambri, but the whole war.
BC:
the whole war, yes, but particular that is a turning point I think. I basically
think that my character appreciate the danger of what’s to come. He would have
known the machine guns that have already been around. He did not know how
wildly it is going to be used by Germen. Those some like a hundred thousand
cavalry both from French and English and be used as front flag before we get
entrenched in trench warfare. The war was very fluid and it was time of great
hope that if you charge fast enough-- you
know, we’re still making this mistake. The Americans made this mistake in the
Gulf War. You know, charging through Iraq just opened a saw through the whole
of the Euphrates and basically kicked over the hornet’s nest which is the
insurgency and all of the complications we have now. It was the similar thing
that they want to have a spearheaded counterattack not by the germens and that
itself is not a necessarily a bad thing but what became ridiculous is the idea
that horses could be used against machine guns. We worked at ** some days, and
he told me that there was a unit of forces sent out in the Second World War. Of
course in the Second World War, you had mountain landscape, you had awful lot
of vehicles and human beings have a great difficulty that horses can still help
with. But there was a battle unit he was in charge of. He knew it would be a
waste of life and waste of horses. He had to kill the horses that were sent to
him. He had to give that order to get these horses executed. It is in the Second World War. One of the worst things about what happened to the war is that
hopefully it wasn’t a long-time experiences but it had been carried on to the
Second World War. So, I think that is also one moving aspect of the film. You
see man’s stupidity but you also see man’s *** through the animals.
Tom: 8 million horses were killed in the First
World War.
It’s an insane number.
Tom: You can’t even imagine what 8 million horses looks like. I mean you wouldn’t even fit 8 million horses in a football pitch. Probably even two. I mean it’s staggering.
End.

Billy
