If it could happen somewhere else, in another country and we'd find out about it in the papers and we could just quite calmly discuss it. Look at all the arguments come up with objective conclusions. We could organise academic debates with scientists and writers and lawyers and feminists and artists. Well, normal people do, of course and it will be interesting, compelling, informative. But when you yourself are actually caught out in it, when you're suddenly confronted by the brutal reality of what's happening, you cannot feel directly effective for shock. It's too violent to stay completely detached and I am shocked. I'm shocked. I'm deeply shocked.
