Rascal Flatts‘ new single “Banjo,” which is the lead single from their forthcoming album Changed, is racing up the charts at country radio. Surprisingly, Rascal Flatts’ Jay DeMarcus says the success of the song was a bit unexpected, for him anyway.“I was a little skeptical of that song at first being the lead-off single for the record, ’cause you usually try to put your biggest piece of work out first on a record, your best foot forward,” DeMarcus tells ABC News Radio.
While he is a big fan of the song, Jay felt that one of the other songs on the new record would have been a better fit to release first. “Boy was I wrong. This one has been smoking up the charts,” he admits.
It’s become clear that “Banjo” was an instant success.
“It usually takes a long time for us to work a song like that into our set,” Jay says, “and we started doing it immediately, and you could see the response immediately. It was kind of strange.”
Changed hits stores April 3.
