***SPOILER ALERT*** Following the first episode of KBS “Dream High 2” on January 30, initial reaction from the viewers has largely been split. Some fans were disappointed in the overall acting quality of the cast, while others lauded the cartoon-like characters and plot of the show. Negative reviews pointed at the poor acting of some of the rookie cast members. “Dream High 2” features a number of actors making their first TV drama appearances, including JB, Park Seo Joon, After School’s Kahi, and “Superstar K2’s’” Kim Ji Soo. Although their characters were appealing, the acting quality wasn’t as well-received by viewers. Netizens commented, “It sounded like they were reading a book,” “I felt uneasy watching their acting,” “They need more practice.” Also, since it was the first episode, where most cast members just got introduced, it was hard for the viewers to fully immerse themselves in the show.
On the other hand, there were positive reviews as well. Each of the main leads showed their unique characters that left lasting impressions on the viewers. 2AM's Jinwoon and Kang So Ra started off strong with their eccentric aspiring singer roles. T-ara’s Jiyeon was also solid with her first “poor acting idol” personality. (只译有拉拉的部分 --另一方面也有正面的评价，剧中的主要演员都能将他们角色中的独特个性表现出来，令观众赞叹不已。2AM中的珍云和姜素拉都能特出自身强劲有负的歌手角色。)Park Jin Young, in particular, continued with his comic character again, creating some of the funnier scenes of the show. Netizens commented, “It was funnier than I thought,” “This is daebak,” and “I can’t wait for tomorrow’s episode.” The first episode of “Dream High 2” portrayed the conflict between current idols and students from Kirin Arts High School. It also introduced the “Underage Protection Law,” while hinting at Oz Entertainment’s CEO Lee Gang Chul’s (Kim Jung Tae) aspiration to acquire Kirin Arts High School’s ownership.
Also, the cameo appearances by IU and Kim Soo Hyun were successful, perfectly playing their respective characters. Kim Soo Hyun played the top actor, Song Sam Dong, and filmed the same kiss scene he did with Suzy on “Dream High 1,” only this time with Jiyeon instead. IU played Pil Sook and bumped into Hyesung (Kang So Ra), who asked for her autograph.
