Forty reasons fans love the man of 'Troy' By Rachel Leibrock -- Bee Staff Writer Take equal parts good looks, charisma and talent and, voil? Brad Pitt. It's easy to figure out why he's a movie star.Still, in an industry where big-screen heartthrobs are $9.50 a dozen - the cost of your movie ticket - what makes Brad Pitt a mega matinee idol? Why does it seem most women alive - and plenty of men - are smitten with the golden-haired, bronze-skinned actor? What makes Pitt such a swoon-worthy Everyman? Is it because he's now showing off his chiseled, toga-clad body in the $200 million-plus behemoth "Troy" and that he's as hot as they come?Is it because he truly appears devoted to his gorgeous wife?Is it because, unlike many of his hunky Hollywood contemporaries, there seems to be a brain behind those blue eyes?We have a few theories of our own - and so do you. Behold: 40 reasons (one for each year of his Brad-a-licious life) why we love Mr. Pitt.1. He's gorgeous. Duh.2. Because he "doesn't have a reputation as a womanizer. The fact that he is happily married and obviously loves Jennifer (Aniston) is sexy!"- Ann?Hastings, 60-something, Citrus Heights3. He's no dummy. Before switching to acting, Pitt studied journalism at Southwest Missouri State University and came within two credits of receiving his degree.4. Because he "has the exact same attractive qualities that Robert Redford had when he was younger. He isn't just a pretty boy."- Dana Floyd, 41, Sacramento5. He quit smoking for his "Troy" role. Long live Brad.6. He wants kids, telling reporters recently that he and Jennifer are ready to start a family and have "been in rehearsals long enough." Long live the future Brads.7. Actually, we really heart Brad because he told Vanity Fair that he "wants all girls."8. Some guys love Brad because he's "(cool) enough to go with Jennifer Aniston. On the other hand, I despise him for stealing my Jenny."- Ben Sodergren, 15, Davis9. He's cultured. He's been spotted recently at the Chicago Art Institute and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York.10. He knows his Sacramento basketball. In a Entertainment Weekly article, he confessed that he studied Kings forward Chris Webber's demeanor for his "Troy" role, explaining, "There's a real sweetness behind his eyes, but he's (ticked) off."11. He's open to change. Pitt, an architecture enthusiast, confided to Vanity Fair that a career switch is still a possibility.12. One word: Toga!13. Two words: Buck naked (in "Troy").14. He actually read Homer's marathon 15,000-plus-line poem "The Iliad" - the classic Greek tale upon which "Troy" is based.15. The awards people have shown a little love to Brad as well. The actor has been nominated for one Oscar (best supporting actor: "12 Monkeys") and two Golden Globes ("Legends of the Fall," "12 Monkeys").16. We definitely love him for dressing up as a chicken when, pre-stardom days, he worked for the El Pollo Loco fast-food chain.17. People magazine loves him. The popular weekly named him "Sexiest Man Alive" not once, but twice - first in 1994 and then again the next year. Since then, no other human has beaten his record.

18. People has chosen Brad as one of its "50 Most Beautiful People" more than once. This year, he and Jennifer both made the list.19. Wait, there's more. In '95, he was named one of People's "Most Intriguing People."20. TV used to love Brad Pitt. The actor made his small-screen debut in 1978 on the nighttime soap "Dallas."21. He also had a recurring role in "Growing Pains."22. And you can catch him in "thirtysomething," "Head of the Class" and "21 Jump Street" reruns.23. We love him because he's hip with kids - he showed up to chat with teens for a recent episode of MTV's "Total Request Live."24. He knows a good cause when he sees one. In 1996, Pitt reportedly donated $100,000 to the Discovery Center, a children's museum in Springfield, Mo., where he attended college.25. He also cares about the environment - and drives a hybrid Toyota Prius to prove it.26. Brad rocks because of "that scene in 'Thelma and Louise' when he describes how he gentlemanly robs a convenience store. I would hand him my purse. And my telephone number."- Karen Billing, 23, Fair Oaks27. Brad has "universal appeal" because he's a "real guy (who's) sexy, funny ... not a typical Hollywood player."- Connie Fish, 34, Sacramento28. We adore Brad because more love makes Brad's world go round. The muscled heartthrob recently told USA Today that "I like a little love and a little fight."29. And "his acting ability convinces me that he is, perhaps, a little of all the characters he plays. He is a kaleidoscope of sexiness, charm, sweetness, strength, vulnerability and humor."- Carol Ogden, 61, Davis30. He proved he can hold his own against Peter O'Toole and Julie Christie in "Troy."31. Some people love him because they know he's actually Mr. Right: "The only reason I am not married to Brad is because he doesn't know that I exist."- Lisa Ayala 38, San Jose32. Still, others profess admiration "because he apparently encouraged his wife to do very cool (movies) like 'The Good Girl.' "- Coventry Kessler, 50-something, Greensboro, N.C.33. We love Brad because he doesn't give up. Although he lost the lead in "Nightmare on Elm Street" to Johnny Depp, he soon scored a role in another slasher flick: 1989's "Cutting Class."34. He's got style: In Japan he's a spokesman for Edwin Jeans.35. Because he occasionally takes on small but worthy projects. In 2001, he narrated "Growing up Grizzly," a documentary about two orphaned bear cubs.36. He helps brighten your day: "A couple of years ago I was taking care of my mother after she was diagnosed with lung cancer. ... One day I turn(ed) on '12 Monkeys' (and) did some serious laughing. At that moment, it felt as if a breath of fresh air had entered my life."- Denise Voydanoff, 45, Detroit37. You also appreciate him because despite several high-profile romances (with, among others, Gywneth Paltrow, Juliette Lewis and Robin Givens), he "never talks bad about his (former) relationships - that's a plus"- Sheryl J. Parriot, 47, Sacramento38. You can't help but like a guy who admits to indulging in pizza once he was done with his grueling "Troy" movie shoot. It's nice to know that in a low-carb-crazed world, Brad likes a slice of real life.39. Brad has your enduring passion because "he has survived the 'pretty boy' image (and) his career has lasted over a decade. He is (also) versatile - taking on a whole range of movie genres and characters."- Gina Burt, 41, New Zealand40. Because, with those tiny crow's feet around his eyes, a well-cared-for physique and the enduring quest for new artistic challenges, he makes the number 40 look very, very good.Sources: Internet Movie Data Base (www.imdb.com); All Movie Guide (www.allmovie.com); Entertainment Weekly, Vanity Fair, USA Today; People; 100% Brad Pitt (www.bradpittfan.com)
