As we know, it has been a hot topic for a long time whether we should learn English well. Some individuals believe that English learning is a sheer waste of time .On their part, in few circumstances will they use English .And college English lessons waste not just time but money. However, I hold the absolutely opposite ideas that English learning is of great significance. Here I have several reasons to support my views.
First of all, we have to learn English because it is the most widely used language in the world. After all, it is now the 21st century，a century with the acceleration of globalization step. With the accelerating process of globalization, English has become the world's most useful language. It is easily find that English is the official language of 45 countries. One third of the world's populations speak English, 75% of television programs are in English and three quarters of the messages are written in English. Even all the computer keyboards use English letters. Any conferences that dare to claim an international one will have to use English. With the ability to speak English, we can not only communicate with people from English speaking countries but also almost people all over the world because applicability of English is really board. As we can see, almost every university has attached great importance to English learning, regardless of what major you select. English is becoming a more and more important tool for college students, especially for business students.
Secondly, I have to point out that college English learning is completely different from traditional learning. I think everyone has the same feeling after taking college English courses for a whole year. When we were in high school, the main target was to achieve high grades, so we usually spent much time learning grammars and doing a large number of exercises to enhance what we learned. However, college English learning is quite different. Since we usually have a good fundamental, college English aims at improving our abilities of using the language. So we are required to answer more questions in class. At the same time, we do more oral English practice in groups. In these ways, we can improve our English to a large extent.
Apart from that, either a wonderful English writing or fluent oral English will make you stand out to get an ideal job after you have graduated from university.
All in all, I have every reason to believe college English learning is quite useful .It's worth the efforts we pay on it.
