jay manuel definitely doesn't hold back when it comes to critiquing style as creative director of "Americas Next Top Model." And that's why we asked him for the lowdown on fall's biggest fashion trends. omg! caught up with him at the PlayStation Uncharted 3 truck in NYC recently, and the silver-haired stylist dished on five chic trends that are showing up on both runways and in celebrities' wardrobes.Rocking the Half Tuck: Once a style only reserved for preppy polo players, this trend is making a major comeback, says Jay. "It has kind of spread to designers from Balmain to Dolce & Gabbana to Hermes -- everybody does the half tuck." How to Wear It: The half tuck can be worn with a T-shirt, Henley, or button down and "is effortless, but it is also very, very chic," explains Jay. "It is not necessarily the look that you have when you are walking down the street, but you could go to an event or a party and wear a half tuck. It is all about showing off your accessories and your details like your belt and belt buckle."
Cuing the Color Block: Have no fear, color is here! According to Jay, who also serves as a fashion correspondent for E!, "It is all about color block right now, which is incredible because often when we get to fall, all the colors become very subdued. So we are seeing a lot of bright colors, and all the designers are taking this nod from the '70s." How to Wear It: "As long as you have something that is color blocked, like a flare jean you are set," Jay shares. "Many designers debuted a variety of color blocked hues at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, but if you want a monochromatic look, take a cue from "The Real Housewives of New York" star Kelly Killoren Bensimon.

Bringing Back the 1970s: Jay says fashion designers are paying tribute to the colorful decade, but not in the way you would normally think about the decade. "It is just this kind of wide [leg] trouser, elongated silhouette, and a little more polished. It definitely has a strong sense of style. How to Wear It: Signature 1970s pieces like the jumpsuit and wide-leg trousers are sure to be a hit, but Jay says you should also be paying attention to "patterns and colors this coming spring" if you want to be on-trend.The Gray Blazer (a Must-Have Item!): "If you had to have one piece of clothing that is not the basic jean, Id say go for a dark gray, pinstripe blazer, because you can dress it up or [down]. You can wear it with a white shirt -- untucked or tucked with jeans and a belt," adds Jay. "It is that perfect piece that, if you throw it in your suitcase, you can wear it a multitude of ways." How to Wear It: This look is unisex, but if you need style inspiration check out Justin Theroux's lady love! "Actually, I love Jennifer Aniston because she is the queen of doing the gray or the gray pinstripe fitted blazer with a white cotton shirt and jeans." And if you need to mix up the casual look, "you can change up your bag and shoes for whatever youre doing. It is great!"
Jumping Into the Jumpsuit: The jumpsuit is one trend that seems to have seasonal staying power. During Fashion Week, Jay noticed, "Diane von Furstenberg has amazing jumpsuits and patterns and colors." The stylist himself is including the piece in his latest line, Attitude Jay Manuel for Sears Canada. And if you need proof that this daring trend knows no heights -- both Heidi Klum and Hayden Panettiere have both been spotted donning jumpsuits recently. How to Wear It: The jumpsuit is one piece that many worry is unflattering, but Jay says there arent any rules when it comes to wearing one. "If you are more comfortable wearing a belt, I would say definitely go with a wide belt as opposed to a skinny belt," he advises. "If you are wearing [a jumpsuit] that is very loose through the midsection, I would go with a skinnier belt and then you can pull up the fabric and kind of fluff it over."
