The Girl with One HeartFirst broadcast: Oct. 28, 2002 Synopsis: Patrick actually refers to one of his lovers as a "girlfriend," much to unrequited Sally's dismay. Steve has a uniquely male fit when Susan removes the lock from his bathroom door. Jane's latest "boyfriend" is someone she has thus far observed only through binoculars. Naturally, all of this comes to a head when everyone is invited to Steve and Susan's place for dinner. Review: Susan's dinner parties will soon be rivaling Mary Richards' for their level of disaster. Steve has another monologue on a par with this pro-porn speech in "Inferno", this one in defense of locks on men's bathroom doors; this diatribe routine of Steve's might get a bit old if overused, but for now it definitely hits the bull's-eye. The misunderstanding between Sally and Jennifer reaches the kind of fever pitch you hope for in a farce, culminating in a nicely touching moment and closing shot for Sally. Pathos and hilarity--two levels rarely achieved on their own, much less together, in a TV series, continue to mesh here. My rating: * * * *
