SIMON Cowell told how he was “bored” with X Factor before he revamped it and launched a US version.
Despite all his past success and multi-millionaire status – he also revealed how nervous he was about failure in America.
Cowell, 51, described it as the most expensive reality show ever, costing £2.1million an episode, and said: “This better bloody work or I am in huge trouble.”
Looking back to a low point in 2009 in Glasgow, he recalled: “I -literally stood up and said, ‘I can't do this any more'.
“So we got back on a plane. I was in a filthy mood. I thought, ‘This show is boring. I don't want to do it any more'. Then I got an idea. I wanted to shoot the auditions in an arena, like concerts.
“That's when it crossed my mind this show is absolutely coming to America.”
But the move across the Atlantic has been plagued with -problems. The -original judging line-up with Cheryl Cole started badly and she was axed.
To join him on the panel, Cowell brought in Nicole -Scherzinger, originally a co-host.
US producer LA Reid and Paula Abdul made up the foursome.
The winner of US X Factor will get a £3million recording contract, which ought to pull in a lot of interest when the first episode is screened on September 21.

But in the UK his success is unparalleled.
The X Factor final pulled in 19.4 million viewers in December. The Britain's Got Talent final was watched by 14 million last month.
The new X Factor season with judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa -Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh is already picking up momentum at auditions.
Last week US X Factor was launched with a 90-second TV promo that was well received by viewers. It portrayed a dramatic show featuring rows between the judges and lots of emotion.
There is a clip of Cowell having a nightmare with bland -auditions and dull comments from all the judges. He says: “This is exactly what would've happened on Idol.
“So many shows on TV all look the same. ‘Voices need to be heard,' blah, blah, blah.”
Two months ago Cowell seemed more confident that X Factor USA would be a hit and said: “We're gonna kick ass.” Now, like many first-time performers he has seen, he seems nervous.

X Factor USA flops
