I took my mom to a midnight funk show in New Orleans after the jazz fest.After a few rounds of kidney jarring bass slaps my mom turns to me and says,“every song has the word funk in it.” While I have a limited knowledge of funk,I did consider this to be true. I guess you have to sing about funk if you’regoing to play funk. The blues is another genre that emotes about its emotiveSelf, as do some variations of rock. i.e. Are you ready to Rock?
在爵士音乐节结束后我和我妈去看了一场在New Orleans午夜Funk音乐会。听过了几首贝斯让肾也在吱吱乱颤的歌之后，妈妈转过来对我说：“这里的每首歌都有Funk这个词在里面。”尽管我对Funk音乐的了解有限，我还是觉得这很有道理。我猜你要想玩Funk音乐的话就要唱关于Funk的歌词。Blues也是那种需要自己感染自己来感染别人的音乐，而一些Rock的分支也是如此，就像：你准备好摇滚了吗？
Having mom around is always fun. The more we hang, the more I learn aboutmy family history and what she was up to when she was my age. And of course shegets to learn more about my crazy life and we speak like adults who are fond ofeach other, each with new & old wisdom to share.
有妈妈在身边总是很有趣。我们在一起的时间越多，我对家庭历史的了解还有她在我这个年龄在做些什么就了解的越多。当然了她在同时也了解了我的疯狂生活。我们像成年人一般对话，互相喜爱，每个人都有新的旧的智慧可供分享。
I am who I am today because my mom encouraged me to do it. If you havekids, or if you work with kids, or simply have access to kids (but not in acreepy sort of way) don’t wait for them to decide what they want to do.Encourage them to try it all on. I worry our kids are racing to be adults whenwhat I mostly see around me are adults racing back to being kids.
我有今年的成绩是因为我妈妈对我的鼓励。如果你有小孩，或者你的工作涉及小孩子，或者有渠道可以接触到小孩（但不是那种令人毛骨悚然的方式），不要等着他们去决定自己想做什么。鼓励他们把所有能尝试的都试一遍。我害怕现在的小孩都忙不迭的要长大，而我身边的情况刚刚相反，大人们忙着变回小孩。
Besides being not-bashful about music and storytelling, mom and I have asimilar taste for head wear.
除了在音乐和讲故事方面不太腼腆之外，妈妈和我对头饰有相似的倾向。
