THE kickoff of a Keith Urban tour in America is cause for pandemonium, but when the expat country superstar sauntered into Australia today for the world premiere of his Get Closer concerts, he may as well have been just another tourist.
Sharing a joke with his tour manager and bandmates, Urban looked relaxed as he arrived in Adelaide to begin rehearsals for the opening show on Friday.
Wife Nicole Kidman and their daughters Sunday Rose and Faith aren't expected to join him during his 11-day visit.
It is the first time Urban has chosen to kick off a world tour in Australia.
He said the rehearsals would help the band "tighten up so we can lose ourselves in the moment."
"Although you don't want to be so lost in the moment that you fall off the stage," he joked. "I’ve come close."
One of the world's most acclaimed live performers, Urban has the rare gift to make an arena feel like a backyard BBQ.
"Making everyone feel part of this thing is what I do. I don't want anyone feeling left out," he said.
Urban launched a competition on Facebook yesterday for fans to guess the opening three songs of the Get Closer show on Friday.
He performs at Rod Laver Arena on Saturday.
