Singer Adele has explained the emotional ending to her Brit Awards performance on Tuesday night (15Feb11) - she was imagining her ex-lover laughing at her while watching on TV.
The singer stunned the star-studded crowd at London's O2 Arena with a rousing rendition of her album track Someone Like You, and visibly welled up as the song ended and the audience gave her a standing ovation.
But the star insists her tears weren't down to happiness - she could envision her former partner, who the song was written about, gloating about the power he still has over her while watching at home.
She tells U.K. network Itv2, "I was really emotional by the end because I'm quite overwhelmed by everything anyway, and then I had a vision of my ex, of him watching me at home and he's going to be laughing at me because he knows I'm crying because of him, with him thinking, 'Yep, she's still wrapped around my finger.'
"Then everyone stood up, so I was overwhelmed."
Adele admits her emotions were high at the Brits before she stepped onstage - because she had only just allowed the success of her latest album to sink in: "They (record label bosses) sent me off to America on the day my album went (to) number one and I've only just got back!" (c) WENN
