Melnikova 俄罗斯杯让我重拾信心 “For me, this win is very important because the previous competitions I had [this year] didn’t go very well for me. There was this feeling sometimes that I just couldn’t get my things together, but here, at the Russian Cup, I started feeling confident in myself, that I can focus, can perform the elements and can fight. And if I will go to Worlds, I will feel more confident there.” Melnikova said that she was more nervous on the first day of competition, during the qualification and team final: “I was nervous that I could compete not so well and then it would be harder to get focused. But we won medals and I was very glad. And today, in the all-around, I felt much more confident and managed to do a lot.” She is aware that there will be serious competition for medals in Montreal, but she thinks she has good chances: “I’m not thinking in advance whether I’ll be able to win or not. There’s always a chance and I need to fight for it, the goal is always the same and I have to strive for it.” Melnikova was pleasantly surprised with crowds attending the competition since usually gymnastics competitions in Russia are met with empty stands even though admission is free. “Honestly, I didn’t expect so many artistic gymnastics fans. It’s the third competition day and every day the stands are packed with spectators. It’s very nice to feel the support, that fans love you, cheer for you, are nervous for you. It’s very inspiring and gives me a confidence boost and I really want to compete for my fans, because when I compete well it makes them happy.”
03s - Klimenko is super great on UB/BB; like I’ve said before, potential world champion material there. I disliked her style for a long time, and her back still bothers me, but I’ve grown to really like her. Agafonova and Belousova aren’t as eye-catching, but they’re still nice, tidy gymnasts. Agafonova is similar to Komova in many ways, and Belousova sorta has that mid-2000s Russia look. 04s -I adore this cohort so much, I’m gonna sink into a deep depression when they all burn out next year lmao. Astafyeva has craaaaazy talent, she picks up skills easily but overall has clean form and nice presentation. Gerasimova is just lovely on beam, with the unique mount and choreography. I believe she’ll “get there” on the other events. Strukova is very… Idk, she’s built like Prod, so she’s never gonna have those great Russian lines. But she does have a lot of power and I’m excited to see where she goes. Urazova is probably my current fave. Strong tumbling, promising vault, and unique beam. She’s like a more elegant version of Kharenkova. Also she’s a spinning machine. Vorona isn’t really on anyone’s radar, but she’s improved a lot since Yelfimov (Komova’s coach) has been working with her. At the very least, I think she can upgrade to a DTY soon, which will put her in the conversation for the major junior meets. Annnnd Komnova. I’m not a huge fan; she reminds me of the faux-elegant American gymnasts tbh. (There ARE elegant American gymnasts, but you know what I mean.) But she has potential on floor
I’ll start with the bit about her comeback. She’s asked if it’s true what some said, that once her child will be three months, her mother will take care of her and she’ll return to the Round Lake. ‘I don’t have such a clear plan. Everything will be the way it will be. It’s impossible for me to think about these things. Maybe in the autumn I will see more clearly when my return is going to take place: is it really this year as Valentina Alexandrovna says, or is it already in the next. I repeat: I’m not making any plans! Her hurband supports her decision to return, but her mother not so much. It’s not that she told her not to do it, but asked why does she need it and reminded her of all the injuries, while her father tells her to let her try. Asked if she returns because she feels she has something left to prove, she says that’s not the reason, she just does it for the team. Speaking about the team, she said Afan wants to return and they’re waiting for Vika to get back. On coming back after having a child, she says she has to try first, and then she can talk about whether it possible or not. She doesn’t have a plan to return and win at all costs. She’ll get herself back into shape, and she’ll see how things turn out. Asked about how she didn’t look ready in training before Rio and then won gold, she says she brings herself to the ideal state before the competition. If she is in top shape long before competition, there’s no way but down from there, so she prefers to peak right at the competition. She sees what’s going on right now as a temporary situation (a pause) since she plans to come back to gymnastics. She says she’s not bored, she has a goal and it’s inspiring. Right now she can now spend all day in bed, meeting friends, going to the movies, shopping, cooking, everything a normal person does. She knows how to cook, and is especially good at soups. The first dish she made was borsch. The recipe for family happiness is respect, trust and love. Her parrents, who lived a great life together, are an example for her in this respect. About Olga Korbut selling her medals, she says she won those medals, so it’s up to her what she does with them. About Anastasya Grishina’s situation, she says it’s her family’s problem. She can only make assumptions based on Nasya’s words, and she expresses her support. She says she also trusted her money with her mother, as this is normal thing for everyone, but some are lucky, some aren’t, and Nastya obviously wasn’t.
1. Angelina Melnikova "I didn't really want to go out unto the floor because so many of my competitions, everything was bad for me... I thought that everything would be bad again. Lately, nothing has come together, I don't know why. Either I forgot how to compose myself or in another way changed. In fact, everything was ready, but why it did not work, I don't know. After the Olympics it was hard because for two months I went to competitions but I really wanted to rest and relax, not to train." "I had to make the last diagonal. Immediately I thought that I could be in the top three, and I was very happy, I did what I loved, did it for myself, as there was nothing more to lose. It was worth it to suffer for a minute and a half- now home! The gold inspired me very much. For now, I just want to really relax, I've had five competitions." Artur Dalaloyan "We cannot say that 'I came, I saw, I conquered'." There was a lot of preparation, a lot of work done. For this victory, this silver in the All Around, I had to work a lot on myself and this is the result. The fact that he's (Oleg Verniaev) first, I'm not pressed, the exact opposite actually. When you do not know the scores of your rivals it's easier- you just go out there and calmly do your thing. After such a perfect Day 1 (quals) I thought that the second cannot go wrong. This European Championship is for my mom. And with silver in the All Around, I dedicate only gold to her. Thank you for having raised me and having raised me like this." Interview taken after EF's: Arthur, if you analyze your results in recent years, then in 2017 you made a qualitative step forward by winning two gold and silver at the Championship of Russia, and then the silver and gold at the European Championship. Whereby such progress?"I can say this: I just found my way. Each person must find an approach that works for them, and I just found the right approach. Of course I have work to do, there is much to strive for, but the road that I am on right now showed me how to train, how to behave and control myself completely at competitions. It is to each his own. Thanks to this the result came." David Belyavskiy "Preparation was very slow. There was always one thing or another to worry about so I could not train properly. I hurt my finger one day and it took days to recover. I just haven't had time to prepare for the All Around, rings in particular is a tough event for me. I rested for four months and there was not enough in the remaining time to try AA. The gold on pommel horse, naturally I did not expect that because I was competing against the Olympic champion. But he gave victory away so it's his problem to figure out. In fact I was very shaken. Maybe that wasn't visible but inside I was straight up shaking and had to cope with all those nerves. But there's a lot of work to be done to increase my scores." Elena Eremina "I'm very happy with the silver medal because yesterday I did not do my best in the All Around. On a 5 point grading system I would give myself a C-minus because I was not perfect on any apparatus. Of course it encouraged me by showing that I am not ready and that I must work to be in the top 3. I really wanted to win bars but it's silver. At the end of my exercise my toe-on pirouette was bad as was my dismount, and this threw away valuable tenths [in d-score and execution]. If not for that mistake it would be gold. But I am satisfied with silver, really I just wanted any medal at all. It gives an impetus for the future, even more than if I had been first. Now I want to work more at a few things." Nikita Nagorny "Before the European Championships I was very upset and I'm probably still acting on these emotions. I need time. I'm frustrated because on rings, it unfortunately didn't work out for me. I can't explain how. In Cluj I made the same mistake that I had at the Olympic Games, I fell on the same element. The important thing is that I'm without injuries, and I'm satisfied with the team, just not very pleased with myself." Natalia Kapitonova From Grebs: "Kapitonova I want to thank especially because she was ill right before she arrived here and in fact had not trained for a week before. She came here, it can be said, and showed morale and strong will, by placing in the top ten in the All Around." (Note: I did not know this about Kapi, therefore I forgive her for looking sluggish on bars. It all makes sense now; I wondered how she could look so different in such a short amount of time. I wouldn't like to be upside down and swinging if I was sick either). Maria Paseka "I'm sorry for not meeting my fans expectations. I've only been training for two months and did everything I could." Valentina Rodionenko "The performance of the women's team leaves much to be desired. The list of participants was not so strong and we go to the World Championships soon. There are a lot of questions, but there is time, we will understand, the debriefing is to be done seriously. It's not so much even about the medals, it was important for us to see how the girls performed their programs, but not everything worked out unfortunately. Now we will decide what and how to change because everyone is already working towards the next Olympics. Serious work awaits us. We need to draw some conclusions now."
I think it’s a combination of things. Injury - She has an ongoing hamstring issue that flared up right before Rio, and I think she may have struggled with it last fall too. (This is also why her leaps have ranged from good to downright shameful.) Who knows if it’s affecting her now. Pressure - Prior to Rio, the Rods were majorly downplaying Aliya and hyping up Melka. The weight of being “Russia’s next star” may have affected her a lot. Poor conditioning - I’m pretty sure Russia dials down the conditioning once the girls turn senior. Or maybe not; 16 is a common age for a growth spurt, and conditioning that worked for a light, prepubescent body probs won’t cut it for a young adult woman. Regardless, she clearly doesn’t have the endurance for her routines, which leads to falls, which leads to a severe lack of confidence, which leads to more falls. Skill selection - Somewhat related to poor conditioning. Tbh she can do every single skill in her program safely and without major error. She just can’t put them all together. It would make more sense to go for lower difficulty she can hit. But, you know. Russia. Competing too much - Here’s Melka’s senior competition history:March 2016 - Stuttgart Team Challenge (QF +TF)April 2016 - Nationals (QF + AA + EF)June 2016 - Euros (QF + TF + EF)June 2016 - Russian Cup (QF + AA + EF)August 2016 - Olympics (QF + TF)November 2016 - Arthur Gander MemorialNovember 2016 - Swiss CupFebruary 2017 - Nationals (QF + AA + EF)March 2017 - Stuttgart World CupMarch 2017 - Jesolo Trophy (TF + EF)April 2017 - London World CupApril 2017 - Europeans (QF + EF) So that’s what, 24 competition days in a little over a year? That’s insane. She hasn’t had more than three months off since she turned senior. And remember, she’s not downgrading for these meets like a lot of girls do. She’s pretty much done full difficulty - DTY, inbars, F and E tumbling passes - at all of these competitions. Plus, all but three of these meets were abroad. Traveling can be exhausting; I can’t even imagine how tired she must be. Compare that to, say, Ragan Smith. Rayray Beads of Sunshine competed through trials, toned down training for a few months, I believe got some bone chips removed, and then competed at Scam. She’s now resting til Classics because they don’t want her to burn out. :) This is you you’re supposed to do it!!! tl;dr - She’s not well-conditioned enough to compete her routines well → she falls a lot → she competes more and falls some more → this kills her confidence, so she falls even more, leaving her demoralized. I ♥ Team Russia.
Komova's interview: I'm healthy and I'm coming back! Komova gave an interview to Sport Express right before the European Championships. She talks about the prospects of the current team at Euros and about how her own training is going. Q: The post-Olympics European Championships are special in many ways – there are many newcomers on all the teams, new routines… What are your expectations from this competition? A: I went through the same thing after the London Olympics. There were few veterans left on our team, many newcomers, and we ourselves suddenly became veterans. I’m looking forward to see our new girls. Elena Eremina who is 15 year old hasn’t competed in any major senior competitions yet, I’m curious about how she’ll do here. Natasha Kapitonova is 16, she has slightly more experience, but not much. Angelina Melnikova went to the Olympics and she’s from my hometown. I’m going to cheer for all of them. Q: People call Eremina the next gymnastics superstar. A: She’s good. She’s very clean technically, has a good level of difficulty. Her best apparatus is bars, I guess, even though she also does all-around. But it’s too early for predictions regarding Lena. She’s still so small, light, it’s easy for her to do all the elements. Let’s see what happens when she grows up a bit. Q: The two-time Olympic medalist Maria Paseka is your age and she’s the only experienced member of this team… A: She’s also my good friend. She went through tough time in preparation for these Championships. She had a lot of back issues and had to work through pain. I called her when she was already in Romani, but she couldn’t talk. I understand and I wish her the best luck. Q: Is it foolish to talk about medal prospects when the team is full of new faces? A: Well, the girls hope for medals, of course. There’s no point to train otherwise. Also, it’s important to make judges like you, make them remember your routines. Q: So, it’s good, then, that our youngsters start at Euros and not at Worlds where the stakes are higher? A: Well, it doesn’t really matter either way – at both competitions you represent your country, so, at least, you have to compete decently. Euros are a bit easier in the sense that our primary competition – Americans and Chinese – are not there. Q: What can you tell about the prospects of our men’s team? A: Their team is also mostly new. I saw videos of Nagorny’s and Lankin’s routines and liked them. I think, now’s their time. Dalaloyan and Lankin are extremely motivated and now upgraded to the necessary difficulty. These guys used to be the B team athletes and now they’re on the A team. Q: Is it true that you got a dog for your win at the 2010 Euros? A: My parents found a way to motivate me. I really wanted a dog and they promised to buy it to me, but with certain conditions. Right now Kutya is staying with my parents. I’d really like to have her with me, but it’s impossible to keep a dog with all the training camps. Q: You mentioned training camps. Does it mean you’re back in training? A: Yes, my doctors gave a permission. I started slowly coming back, I’m training at the local gym now. If everything goes right, I want to go to the Round Lake after Euros and show what I can do. Q: So, you’re planning on competing during the whole quad including the Tokyo Olympics? A: I really hope so. Q: You missed the Rio Olympics because of your back problems. How did you manage to fix it? A: I went to Germany last summer, they diagnosed me with a stress fracture in my spine. I was in treatment for 8 months – took medication, did physical therapy, went to Germany for follow-ups several times. At the end, the German doctors allowed me to come back to training with only a few limitations. There are some exercises that I shouldn’t do, but there are also some that are very beneficial for my back. Overall, I’m healthy. Q: Were you ever in doubt whether you should come back to sport after such a long break and such a difficult injury? A: I was, at first. But then, when I came to the gym and realized my back doesn’t hurt, it was… just wow! I suddenly could do the things I wasn’t able to do for a long time because of my back pain. So, I gradually got used to the training. My coach is often travelling to competitions with other gymnasts, so then my dad replaces him. I really hope I’ll soon be working with the rest of the girls and will fight to make the national team.

纳果的管子频道是 Nikushkin Day 爱好男子体操的可以关注哦 -He started the vlog because he got tired of seeing empty stands at competitions (especially in Moscow). In most cases, the audience was usually other gymnasts and coaches (instead of actual fans/spectators), which was quite depressing to him and most of his fellow competitors. He feels his videos have already begun to help in that aspect. -He sees himself as more of a gymnastics informant than a true vlogger because he wants people to know there are other sports besides football, basketball and hockey. -He realized his channel started having a positive effect when he received messages from strangers about how his videos encouraged them to get into gymnastics or enroll their children in gymnastics classes. People also ask for advice about gymnastics and general fitness. -His vlog format was inspired by Dnevnik Khacha (Amiran Sardarov), who is one of Russia’s most popular YouTube personalities. Nagornyy admits it took him a while to overcome being camera shy. -Nagornyy invited Amiran Sardarov for a video he filmed at Club Dynamo-Moscow (and a couple of other videos) that contributed to much of his channel’s recent growth. He received a lot of helpful advice from Sardarov to keep his channel going. -His channel recently reached 60k subscribers, so he hopes to arrange an event for fans who want to get started in gymnastics. -At 100k he’d like to start another channel to talk about gymnastics as a professional sport because people frequently ask him for more information but have nowhere to turn to learn about it. It would be easier for him to dedicate a separate channel for it. -He hopes to collaborate with athletes across different sports because there aren’t very many serious vlogs dedicated to Olympic sports in Russia (never mind artistic gymnastics). He mentions the program “Dublyor” on Match TV where athletes switch places by trying different sports from their own. -He faced some challenges in the beginning with the coaching staff when he started filming things in training. Some of the coaches yelled at him and even threatened him for filming things they didn’t approve of. Nagornyy wondered if they had something to hide since they didn’t want their behavior shown in his videos. Eventually he realized the coaches just weren’t familiar with what he was doing and resistant to changes of the training atmosphere. -He sometimes receives criticism for talking about his personal life and material things such as cars in his videos, but his reason for that is to be able to connect with viewers through common interests because he knows artistic gymnastics isn’t popular. He knows his channel wouldn’t grow at all if he only talked about gymnastics in his videos, so he tries to include everyday things people might like to know about him. He gained a lot of subscribers that way who didn’t know anything about gymnastics before. -Overall he’s received tremendous support for the channel including support from Andrei Rodionenko. Many coaches and gymnasts across Russia are subscribers of his channel who wanted photos and autographs with him at the recent Russian Championships in Kazan. -He was pleasantly surprised to see a few hundred spectators who traveled to Kazak specifically to see him even though he didn’t properly advertise the championships in his recent vlogs. A lot of people wrote to him hoping he could arrange a meet-and-greet with fans, but he wasn’t able to do that this time since he was caught off guard by their arrival. -His vlogs aren’t without critics who believe his videos are a distraction from training and annoy some of the coaches. However, the overall opinion of his project has improved over time from fans and people at Round Lake alike. -Sports marketing sounds interesting to him, but he feels he can’t really do that until he becomes an Olympic Champion for the sake of visibility and to be taken seriously. -As mentioned before, he hopes to do projects with athletes of other sports to encourage a greater video presence of Olympic sports online. It’s not enough to have an occasional sports video go viral that quickly comes and goes. It’s really difficult to build a serious sports audience, so he aspires to improve the presence and promotion of gymnastics in Russia[图片]
