【Nastia】一篇经典的报道,全面解读俄美柳金(从未曝光的信息)) How Russian do you feel? How do you answer a question like that? Well, if you’re Moscow-born American champ Nastia Liukin, it can be tricky, impossible even. The usually easy-going and chatty Liukin merely shrugs and shakes her head when asked. “Umm,” she starts, before trailing off. This daughter of Soviet gymnasts has spent most of her life in America. By the age of three she was living here full time and her entire gymnastics career has been spent on U.S. soil. She admits English is “always easier” for her than Russian, though she’s fluent in both. Still, she and her parents visit Russia at least once each year to keep in touch with family, and it’s hard to deny that there’s something a bit foreign about a young woman whose “official name,” as she calls it, is Anastasia Valerinichna Liukina. “That’s in Russia,” she adds, “Here, we’re all ‘Liukin’ because they (my parents) didn’t want me to have, like, a different [last] name from my dad”But even her parents, who grew up in what was then the Soviet Union—her mother, Anna, in Moscow and her father-coach, Valeri, in Kazakhstan—are now “pretty American,” according to Liukin. In fact, the entire Liukin clan are American citizens.“With my parents [we speak] mostly English because we’re just surrounded by it, the whole entire day,” Liukin explains. “At the gym it’s mostly English. For my dad, he was a [male] gymnast and he didn’t start to coach women until he came here, so he learned all the [women’s] gymnastics terms in English. I think a lot of the terms he doesn’t even know them in Russian, because they’re different from what the men [use]. A lot of skills I know I wouldn’t even know how to say in Russian.”And the Liukin family has become adept at more than the language of the USA. They are the very definition of the modern American dream. In the early 1990s, Valeri and Anna were scraping by—they couldn’t even afford a babysitter for Nastia—coaching in Louisiana and fantasizing about opening their own gym. Partnering with longtime friend Yevgeny Marchenko, a sports acro star in the Soviet Union (Marchenko was actually the one who introduced Valeri to Anna), they landed in Plano, Texas. They picked Plano after driving around the area and seeing the large houses, thinking a locale that wealthy would be a good place to start a gym. So, with a shoestring budget and few daring investors they started the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy—now permanently shortened to WOGA to avoid conflicts with the International Olympic Committee—in an abandoned mini-mall storefront.
