Today, Screamscape.com has a few new pictures from construction, most notably one of a building from Hogsmeade Village.We've also received word from a source who tells us that the entire Lost Continent area will close in early 2009 to make way for The Wizarding World. Two places inside Lost Conintent, the Voyage of Sinbad and Dueling Dragons (a show and a ride respectively) will both be kept but converted to Potter. It's important to take this information with a grain of salt until we get official confirmation, even though rumors have been rampant lately about The Lost Continent's future. New interview with JK Rowling New interview with JK Rowling Jo Rowling recently granted a lengthy interview to the Edinburgh "Student" newspaper in which she discusses religious opposition to the books, her depression, Dumbledore's sexuality and more. Below is an excerpt:How does she react to those who disagree with a homosexual character in a children's novel? "So what?" she retorts immediately "It is a very interesting question because I think homophobia is a fear of people loving, more than it is of the sexual act. There seems to be an innate distaste for the love involved, which I find absolutely extraordinary. There were people who thought, well why haven't we seen Dumbledore's angst about being gay?" Rowling is clearly amused by this and rightly so. "Where was that going to come in? And then the other thing was-and I had letters saying this-that, as a gay man, he would never be safe to teach in a school."An air of incredulity descends on the room as if Rowling herself still can not believe this statement. She continues: "He's a very old single man. You have to ask: why is it so interesting? People have to examine their own attitudes. It's a shade of character. Is it the most important thing about him? No, it's Dumbledore for God's sake. There are 20 things that are relavant to the story before his sexuality." Bottom line then: he isn't a gay character; he's a character that just happens to be gay. Study finds 'Potter' can be addicting Study finds 'Potter' can be addicting As if anyone needed to tell us this, MTV published an article earlier today about research concluding that the Harry Potter series can in fact be addicting. The story notes:In a just-finished study that's being submitted to the Journal of General Psychology, psych professor Dr. Jeffrey Rudski and two of his undergrad students at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, report that they found characteristics of addiction in at least 10 percent of the 4,000 Potter fans they polled online.While the doctor discusses that the end of the series did have serious withdrawal symptons for some, likening it to going off a drug "cold turkey," he also said he chose to do the study on the end of the boy wizard's saga over the conclusion of the hit series The Sopranos because of his 15-year old daughter and the things she's taken from it:"She's picked up guitar because she wants to be in a wizard-rock band," he said. "She's studying Latin because she wants to better understand J.K. Rowling's choices of names for her characters. Brand new pacing scene added to Half-Blood Prince Brand new pacing scene added to Half-Blood Prince David Barron has revealed to the Herald Sun that a new scene has been added in the upcoming Half-Blood Prince film in order to remind moviegoers that nowhere is safe. Having JK Rowling's approval of the scene, Barron is confident that people will like it:But this was brought in because Jo (Rowling) was able throughout the quite lengthy book to keep dropping little snippets of what was happening in the outside world - there'd be people reading newspapers and talking about how somebody's parents had been killed, or somebody had been withdrawn from school because their parents didn't think it was safe.And we're making aware that the Muggle world is also experiencing these disasters, but thinks they are disasters rather than the work of Voldemort.The book is peppered with those moments, but we couldn't do that quite so easily in the film.So (the extra scene) comes in the middle of the film and it just reminds us the world is no longer a safe place. On filming the highly-anticipated movie, she says:"I'm looking forward to it. It's unusual to have such a successful film only starring British actors. I have really started to enjoy the craft of film acting. I do a lot more film and television now than theatre. The difference between screen and stage is that in theatre it's tangible whether someone can act or not. I've worked with people, who will remain nameless, where a film scene has had to be cobbled together from a whole day's worth of takes because the actor is [bad]. They can't remember the lines; if they do remember the lines, they can't remember the moves. In the final project, they will look great, because the director will cut the film for them. New Pictures from Potter Park construction New Pictures from Potter Park construction Two websites that follow Universal Studios developments have recently updated with new construction photos and information regarding the Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park.First, Universal Ignited has three new pictures of construction on their site. While it doesn't show much, we do see that progress in terms of land clearing is being made.Second, Screamscape has a YouTube video revealing two concept images we saw in the JK Rowling documentary. One, seen left, is the Hogwarts Express on display for visitors. The other appears to be Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley.We'll continue to bring you updates as construction rolls along. Currently, all five Potter films are available in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats. All of WB's movies will continue to be released on standard DVD.Because of WB's announcement, Sony's Blu-Ray format is dominating the high-definition market. A huge factor was due in part to the record-breaking numbers in sales made by Deathly Hallows — 11.5 million copies were sold within the first ten days of the July release. But the decision came down to something much deeper:Hallows is the book of the year because Rowling gave her story an ending that was as graceful, unpredictable and satisfying as the series itself. She reaffirmed that magic can exist when someone opens a great book and enters a world created from words on paper. She made us believe that the imagination — like her own little wizard, now all grown up — still lives.

The magazine lists their top 15 books of the year with the final installment in the Harry Potter series claiming the top spot.You could call it the most satisfying ending to a guessing game since the casting of Scarlett O'Hara. The seventh and final installment of the Potter series went in no radical directions (Harry didn't die), but Rowling made it look effortless when she niftily tied off one plot line after another. Her latest venture, Ballet Shoes - due to air in the UK on BBC 1 on December 26th - is discussed, as well as her ambition to be a successful actress. Emma comments that:"I was so nervous I nearly turned [Ballet Shoes] down. I'd just finished the last Harry Potter film, and it was the summer holidays and I hadn't had a break, but then I thought, 'I actually really want to be an actress, a proper actress who makes it her career'".Sensibly, she also has a backup plan to continue with her studies, and has applied to read English and philosophy at prestigious Cambridge University.
