Darvill, who played Matt Smith’s companion Rory Willia***ost all his work for Che Walker’s play The Lightning Child, which will debut at the Globe Theatre next summer. “I’ve lost everything I’ve written in the last 18 months, including all the music for the play, which is a nightmare,” said Darvill, who lives in Hackney. “Luckily, I’d emailed lots of bits so I’m in the process of trying to get stuff back. But it’s inspired me to go, ‘I’ve got nothing here, I can write a lot of new stuff’.” Darvill, 30, is at the Duchess Theatre with Laurence Fox in Our Boys by night and is filming ITV series Broadchurch by day. Despite a busy career, he has continued his work on the guitar and keyboard. He has composed for plays at the Bush Theatre and twice with Walker, his friend from Rada — the Young Vic hit Been So Long and The Frontline, at the Globe. “It’s what I’ve been doing when I’m not acting,” he said. “It’s definitely helpful understanding how plays work as an actor when you’re writing the music.” He said music had always been part of his life because his father Nigel played the Hammond organ with the Fine Young Cannibals and the Ruby Turner Band. The Lightning Child is an adaptation of The Bacchae, Euripides’ Greek tragedy, set in ancient Thebes and modern London. “I think it’s the best thing Che’s written. It’s a play about the best party that has ever existed. It has characters from history, very small stories, huge epic ones. "A lot of it will be very tribal and carnival like. There will be lots of drummers and loud music. I’m very excited.” Its large scale deterred other venues and the pair were thrilled when the Globe — where Darvill appeared in Doctor Faustus last year — asked to put it on their 2013 summer programme. 【资料】亚瑟简介 Arthur Darvill Born 17th June 1982, Thomas Arthur Darvill is professionally known as Arthur Darvill. He is an English actor, who is currently best known for his role as Rory Williams in the television drama Doctor Who. Arthur attended the Bromsgrove School in Worcestershire from 1993 to 2000, and also the Stage2 Youth Theatre Company from 1991-2000. His first television appearance was presenting on CITV in 2000, where he presented the invision continuity links between the different shows. He left CITV in 2001, and founded his own theatre company (Fuego’s Men), who performed around the Midlands. Arthur trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where he graduated in 2006. Arthur’s first professional stage role was playing a condemned criminal named Harrison, in Terre Haute, which ran at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, as part of the 2006 Fringe festival. This later transferred to the Trafalgar Studios in London (Whitehall) in 2007, in which Arthur took the same role. This performance gained him a nomination for Best Newcomer at the 2007 Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Arthur also appeared in Stacy, and Swimming with Sharks in 2007, with the latter being alongside esteemed actors Christian Slater, Helen Baxendale and future Doctor Who co-star Matt Smith. Swimming with Sharks earned Arthur a London Newcomer Award nomination. In 2008, Arthur made his drama debut on television in ITV crime drama He Kills Coppers. The same year, he went on to play Edward ‘Tip’ Dorrit in BBC period drama series Little Dorrit. Arthur is also a known musician and composer – he has written songs and music for The Bush Theatre, Che Walker’s Frontline at the Globe Theatre and has worked with other writers. In June 2009, the musical Been So Long, based on Ché Walker’s 1998 play, opened at the Young Vic. Arthur had worked with Walker for a number of years, since they had first met at RADA, developing the songs and music for the show. The musical was also performed at the Latitude Festival in July and had a run at the Traverse Theatre in August. Darvill received a Judge’s Discretionary Award from MTM for his music. The following year (2010), Arthur made his debut as the recurring character Rory Williams in the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who (episode 01 – The Eleventh Hour), reuniting with his Swimming with Sharks co-star Matt Smith. He also has a minor role as a stable groom in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. Other films include Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, based on the life of Ian Dury, in which he plays keyboard player Mickey Gallagher, and Pelican Blood – Dir Karl Golden, due to be released summer 2010. In 2011, Arthur became a full-time companion aboard the TARDIS, confirmed to appear in the entire Series 6, again alongside Matt Smith and Karen Gillan.
