【战报】3月2日狮城鲁尔包围战 因为玩家人数不够所以有苏军乱入了 THE RUHR POCKET!March 2, 2015· by benlyj· in Battle Report.· Having crossed the Rhine, both Army Groups fanned out into the German hinterland. Army Group B must break out or be destroyed in the Flames of War Event @ Titan Games Singapore The Ruhr Pocket was a battle of encirclement that took place in late March and early April 1945 On 28 Feb 2015, the self styled historians and gamers decided to take a try at this scenario. The Allies and Axis forces are both represented by players on either side. Here they are. Allies, 1. Anderson Wu, (Soviet Army Expert and muscleman, Superstitious of tables) 2. Lance, (New American armor player, Strong list with terrible dice rolls) 3. Evans, (American Armor list, Important to note: he’s a resident german Panzer Lehr Player. Turn coat manged to wipe out a Mech list in pahse 2) 4. Er Ming Yong, (American Armor Expert, Got delayed by snow storms and only battled in phase 2) 5. Mark Wong, (The American fearless airborne Paras) 6. Jeremy (American Armor list led by some guy named JOE. Delayed by snow storms and subbed the allied side in phase two) Allies: 1. Er Ming Yong, Tank Company Remagen 2. Lance Chong, Yu An Tank Company BGG 3. Evan Leong, British Armoured Sq. MG 4. Mark Wong, Parachute Rifle (Easy COY?) NUTS 5. Anderson Wu, Light Assault Gun Red Bear 6. Axis: 1. Hans Von Guang, Panzer ausbildung DM 2. Melvin Sim, Aufklärungs Schwadron PttM 3. Nicholas Leong, PzGren PttM 4. Leonardo Ang, PanzerKompanie DM 5. Er Swee Nguan, Ge. PzGren PttM 6. Benjamin Lin, Ge. PzGren FBB The events was split into two phases. Players were to bring 2 lists each of 1,000 and 1,500 Pts. This was to account for the randomness of combat as there were to be random opponents and games split between 2 vs 2 and 1 vs 1 games. Scenarios were also chosen by the winner of roll offs once tables were chosen, Scenarios dictated which side would be the attacker/defender, which further simulated the randomness of combat in the desperation of the Pocket. The objective for the allies were to get 10 divisions out of the pocket and the Allies were to stop them. Correspondingly the number gotten out would be dictate the level of victory for either side. The details of the event can be found here,Ruhr Pocket. Phase 1 The allies won 2 / 3 of the dice rolls for initiative. They chose to try and crush as many divisions as possible. The first battle of the day was a daring Break out attempt. 2 Full sized divisions attempted to break through the encirclement. A face off between Soviets and Para to hold the pockets against a combined force of Furhrer Begleit Brigade and Scout division. The objective of the game is for germans Assets to break in and take an objective while outpacing the enemies reserves which come in from the opposite short edge, meaning the reserves will have to race down the field to save their beleaguered allies. Or if the attack delays, be caught in a hammer and anvil. The scenario is this This is the battle field from the left allies side, some Russian armor literally “Tank” the hits and are backs up by paras in the woods. both objectives are in the Left and Right extremes of the board. Having been able to touch the forest edge and give commanding views of the forest, Recon assets were only able to skirt around. The centre of the boards for the allies point of view. The Russian armor present a toned down version of the “Iron Curtain” to the german advance. Never ones to turn down a challenge, opposing this fearsome wall of steel were 3 Trained Stug Hs, hiding behind a fence (Which was later clarified to not provide concealment therefore in the open). They survived the battle but not the event. What was a bloody mess was that Anti Tank assets on the right flank got charged by, well the whole german army on turn on due to Spearhead moves that allowed on scout platoon to get close. They managed to pin, dismount and charge on turn 1 with a Warrior backing them up to smash in through the breach, kill the soviet 1 IC, the Para AT and about half the defending platoon for the objective. It may not be clear in the photo, but that was 3 different platoons for charging down that lane, 2 HMGs and 2 2cms fire from the snow covered hill behind them. By turn two, the forest you see on the right side of the photo was heavily contested piece of real estate. Paras passing all morale checks and fighting on to the bitter end managed to wipe out the first wave of germans only to be felled by the second wave. The tanks angle for better shots and defensive positions but the infantry holding the flank are destroyed, it becomes difficult for the tanks to stay. They advance on turn three, toasting infantry and half tracks and then lose in the close combat fight against faust armed Germans and are all destroyed or captured. This resulted in a Victory for the germans and a two german divisions leaving the pocket back to german lines. Battle 2. 1 vs 1, German infantry assaults a tank company. In the morning hours, German infantry commander Nicholas Leong decides to attack an armored company with the iniative. He pushed down a table with hetzers and under the cover of 15cm howitzers. Pushing forward through a river running right down the centre of the table US Armor assets attempt to respond to the threat laid down by the germans but without sufficient forces on the table, they are unable to travel against the 15cm Howitzers which boast a 10% kill rate against tanks with top armour 1. The Germans finally make it over the river crossing and claim the objective. (Whether it was prudent to spend a division to recover staff who crashed into a lamp post in the middle of an open field is a debate for another day.) This battle ended in victory for the germans and saw the metre pushed to a pocket being wide open. Battle 3. 1 vs 1. German Mech inf list against a US Armored. The US have isolated a german company and no quarter shall be given or asked. Both armies have tanks and are matched in most aspects, of AA to air cover, tanks to tanks. The commanders of both forces are untried and hoping to make a name for themselves. After a struggle and a blood bath, the US surround the German positions and a last remaining german platoon is all that stands in the way of the US Armor and victory. The Germans manage to roll 6, 6 times and panzerfaust the American armor into oblivion. Securing the second win for the German side and allowing a division to escape. Phase 2 Phase one was a complete victory for Germany. All three games played were won by the German side. This resulted in 3 divisions escaping the pocket, the pocket remaining wide open which meant that all German Divs remaining after phase 2 would escape if the allies didn’t counter us. Unfortunately, due to lack of photos, I will only be talking about one battle for phase two. The last battle for the Pocket. 2 vs 2. German infantry and German Mech Inf against 2 Armor lists. The British and US hammer come crashing down on German lines. They must fight to hold the pocket open as the final elements of the army escape. As fate would have it, this game took the longest and had the most hanging in the balance. The Germans lost the other two battles and lost two divisions to the Allies. If this battle was won, the Germans would have secured the pocket and gotten 8 out of 10 divisions out. If the allies won, they would have wiped out 6 whole divisions of Germans. Effectively ending any real resistance for western Germany. The battle started with the wiping out of Stug Hs. This time, they hid behind an actual concealment granting fence but it wasn’t enough to stand against the US and British Armor. 2 Bails and 1 tank destroyed was enough to have them run while the infantry stayed in the woods and waited for the armor to advance. The armor advance is cautious and calculated The battle map from above as the armor close in on the right objective and the left gets largely ignored. The hammer is ready to fall with a single Stug H wreck dotting the terrain in front of them. Detroits Finest capture the objective! but can they hold it. A trap is sprung and 3 Pak 40s appear in the trees! The German radio silence is broken by calls for the fatherland and Orders being screamed forward to throw everything at the armored divisions! A devastating Assault leaves a deadly tally of 8 Dead tanks in the objective area. The smoke is thick and acrid but nothing could smell sweeter to the Germans, secure in the knowledge that every second held, meant more Germans escaping to defend the fatherland again. The Iron cross can be spotted in the top of this photo and it blessed every dice roll made by the Germans (A simple rub on each roll was made). This practice although superstitious seemed to have worked! With most tank assets cleared, A single Platoon held on to the objective as the US armor committed everything in a all or nothing assault. Defensive fire from Pak 40s and faust saw the total tally for the German Infantry defence at a whopping 16 Tanks destroyed. A Tiger would have been proud to say the same. A few Iron Crosses should have been earned even though few survived the actual melee. The German Victory caused an overwhelming victory for the Germans, with 8/10 divisions making it out. The games were close and as fate would have it, the last game came down to the wire. Thank you all and hope you guys enjoyed the reports. The author was playing on the day and therefore couldn’t cover any particular battle in tactical detail.
