The pattern is random and intentional. That material is only on the inside arch area of the shoe. The area in question is called the medial post area of the shoe and the speckles indicate a denser foam material for support. People do sometimes mistake those marks for dirt but it is part of the design of the shoe. I just want you to know that this is completely normal and those marks or speckles will be on every pair of ASICS support category shoes that includes the Kayano model among others.
