【盖世音雄2014】CIB Announcements Content CIB 100 - Week 3 Preparation Posted on: Friday, July 25, 2014 3:00:00 PM WST Hello All Tutorials and lectures This coming week we will explore changing social phenomenon that impact on how business communicates and interacts with society. The scholarly centred discussions this week will be on how women and men communicate in the workplace. We examine values expressed in corporate publications such as codes of conducts and mission statements. Think about different companies and what they communicate in these documents. Bring examples to the discussion! We will also continue looking at Assignment One with a particular focus on how to find resources for your essay. Assignment One The assignment is due on Monday 11 August at 5pm. To assist you in preparing for your first assessment, three (3) exemplars have been provided for you to review. However, you do not need to follow the structure of these papers: There is not a formula to writing, and therefore they are only provided as a guide. The exemplars are located under the Assessment Tab/Assignment Folder in Blackboard. In addition, reflections from past scholars are also available under the Unit Resources /Scholar Reflections Tab in Blackboard. Don’t forget the Assessment Workshops. Go to the Assessment Tab/ Assignment Folder. Keep in touch Finally, just a reminder that you cannot change tutorials at all. You need to stay in your tutorial for the remainder of the semester. Don’t forget to keep in touch through LIKING your Tutor’s Facebook Page, if applicable. Have a great weekend CIB 100 Team. At the end of every week, an announcement will be posted to let you know how to prepare for the next week, as well as hints about assessments. A few things to note: You should by now have become familiar with the Unit Outline and checked the Blackboard site. You should have also "liked" your Tutor*s Facebook page if applicable. You should have attended the tutorial that you are enrolled in. Please do not try to attend any other tutorial. Next week, you will participate in your first Scholarly Centred Discussion. Read the pre-essential reading and make annotations in preparation of your tutorial. Bring along your marked up article to the tutorial as well as two questions or two statements from your research. Check the tutorial slides for module 2 so you can see the questions that will be discussed. We will also spend time on deconstructing the first assignment. Make sure to have an idea of what company you wish to look at for your assignments. If you wish to seek more assistance on the assignment, consider listening to the podcast on Critical Essay Workshop or go to the Communication Skills Centre for information on their courses. Check out EchoCentre and understand how to participate in Live Lectures as well as listen to recorded lectures conducted at the Bentley Campus. Please direct any questions regarding assignments to your tutor or lecturer first, as they will be able to assist you. Also, the Unit Coordinator is Hannah Vickers, which is a change from your unit outline. She is still available on the unit email address: [email protected]. To help you get the most out of your experience, stay in touch with your tutorial and tutor. Use your Tutor*s Facebook Page to ask questions to assist in your preparation. In doing so, take a moment to watch an episode about using Facebook on JJJs Hack Hour http://tieba.baidu.com/mo/q/checkurl?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.abc.net.au%2Ftriplej%2Fhackhalfhour%2Fprograms%2Fs2359534.htm&urlrefer=b8c4256f357609a7ce5dd89324c1ec63 Have a great week. Cheers The CIB 100 Team Posted by: Hannah Vickers Posted to: Communication in Business 100 (Singapore Tri 2A-14) CIB 100 - Welcome Posted on: Friday, July 11, 2014 8:00:00 AM WST Welcome Communication in Business 100 (CIB 100) challenges you to analyse how business communicates and interacts in society. It brings together a number of disciplines to introduce you to the issues facing contemporary business and the roles that modern organisations are called upon to play. In turn, you will have the opportunity to integrate theory into real life business scenarios as you examine organisational performance through the lens of the societal contract, corporate citizenship, stakeholder management and other business orientations. As “Scholars of business” with ideas and opinions worth sharing with your peers, you will be challenged to express your viewpoint on contemporary business issues and support your stance with persuasive arguments. These arguments should illustrate your understanding of the changes and improvements that society demands of business and that ultimately legitimise the existence of business in today’s society. As you will present your ideas and opinions in a variety of forums, you will in turn be exposed to and learn various interpersonal, group work and communication skills essential for university and employment success in the ever changing competitive global business environment. Technology plays an important and critical role in today*s business. It has shaped how we undertake business and communicate in a commercial setting. CIB 100 will introduce you to a variety of technology, including live-streaming lectures from the Bentley campus, and encourage you to explore ways of employing technology to communicate in business today. Take time to review the Unit Outline before the start of the semester. The Unit Outline is the contract between you, your tutor, the Unit Coordinator and the University. It provides you with important information about the general aims of the unit, its resources and details about the assessments, including allocation of marks, grading criteria and submission dates. As scholars of business, consider it in the same way you would view a contract. Study it carefully, paying particular attention to the lecture details, assessment instructions and key dates. Information contained in the Unit Outline specifies the requirements for this unit and explains your rights and responsibilities in relation to the University. Go to Module 0 to learn how to use the technology in the lectures. The Student Reflection folder is also worth a visit. Here you will listen to and read about past scholar experiences in the unit. I am sure you will find some useful hints. If you do not understand any part of the unit outline, do not hesitate to ask your tutor. All tutor contact details will be available under the Contacts Tab on Blackboard. If you wish to contact the Unit Coordinator, please email: [email protected] Unit Coordinator is also available on Skype as well as weekly web conferences. Check Blackboard and the Unit Outline for more details. We wish you well for the semester and encourage you to embrace the unique opportunity this unit presents to you. We also hope that it is an enjoyable time and helpful in your introduction to university. The CIB 100 Team
