A microphone and speakers, or a headset, must be connected to each person's computer to use the program. Usage Users install the Ventrilo client and connect to a Ventrilo server; one user in the conference-call (or a third-party) must have the server version of the software installed. The Ventrilo client and server are both available as freeware (but a license needs to be purchased for more than 8 people to be in a conference call or connected to the same server, as described in "History and licensing," below). Ventrilo is often referred to ingame as "Vent". Ventrilo is also used as a call-in method on radio shows, and for general voice-chat. The quality of the speech depends on the users' sound cards, microphones/speakers, and the codec selected by the administrator. It also depends on the quality of the server's and client's Internet connection. Versions and features Version 3.0.0 was released on 14 November 2007; all supported operating systems have the same version number. New features include per-channel codec selection (pay server only), and hotkey combinations (for example Ctrl+ScrollLock, or ScrollLock+NumLock) as opposed to the previous single-key limitation. As usual, upgrade to 3.x.x is mandatory for both the server and the client. History and licensing In versions prior to 2.1.2, one could freely run their own private server, but could not rent their slots to other people. Starting after version 2.2.0, the free version of the server is limited to 8 simultaneous client connections. If you want more than 8 simultaneous connections, you must now either purchase a license for the "Pro" version of the server, or rent a server from a hosting company licensed by Ventrilo. Flagship Industries also has limited "official licensees" to legally registered corporations with other specific requirements (placing the Pro server out of reach of most—if not all—individuals). 有感于RN上一个水友的————————————————我是新手，原帖写到：玩dota也一年了，对所有英雄的技能略微了解，也有自己比较喜欢的英雄，在初级房里面，（我vs才3级）初期对线也不会很差劲，但是一旦到了中期我就有点懵了，抓人抓不到，打钱也不像开局那么仔细，即使中期把对面各种杀，即使打了roshan，高地进攻也没有好的办法，那么多的技能，那么多的英雄，就不知道打哪个，用什么技能，碰到厉害的队友，我还能跟得上，打逆风就没有一点思路，我也经常看各种大神的视频讲解，也看各种队伍比赛的rep,可是自身提高到没有多少，可能是差距太大了吧，大神做的行为我不能够理解，自然也学不会- - 希望论坛里有人能指点我一二，因为我想提高，也就这么简单。谢谢很多新人估计也会碰到类似的问题，我给出一个我自己的办法：研究自己的replay，看看自己哪里没有做好，什么时候该去抓人却没有抓到人，什么时候应该买个眼睛你却一直在打酱油，各种失误都可以在自己的replay里面找到，然后自己想办法去克服。有没有人敢提出异议？！
