【Transcript】Yags at home- Russian TV Interview 10/04/05 Alexei Yagudin returning homeAnastasia Sakhovskaya visited Alexei Yagudin at his home. Right now the famous skater is in the process of moving from USA back to St. Petersburg. Here are 5 nice discoveries about Alexei in Anastasia Sakhovskaya's report. The video:Host: Discovery #1 – Alexei Yagudin is a typical night owl. But he says he only gets enough sleep for 3 months in a year, in summer. Commonly, in the morning he only has 30 minutes maximum to get himself ready for a day with 10 minutes of that time going to watching the news. He sadly recollects the time when he could sit in front of the TV for hours watching his favorite Soviet comedies.Alexei: I am a kind of person who thinks one should take this life with a sense of humor. The merrier is everything around you – the better. Easier to live.Host: Discovery #2 – Alexei Yagudin is a movie fan. He plans to see the sensational “9th company”. It is also a son’s duty – he will most likely go to see the movie with his mother. His favorite films are "Gladiator", "Lolita" and "Barber of Siberia". By the way, Alexei admits that shedding a tear during the movie is very much like him.Alexei: Yes, I cry. Generally, I am a very emotional person. I mean, real strong dramas, serious movies – like "Lolita" for instance – they make you think, to look deep inside yourself.(Alexei shows his photoalbum, says something like: here is my mom with my doggy, this is where we used to live before).Host: Discovery #3 – Yagudin is a traveler. The tourist kilometers can only compare to ice kilometers. From tours he brings home pictures, from shows – stuffed toys of all shapes and colors. Alexei: (with the toy raccoon) I brought this one from my last trip. (the toy sings – actually, this raccoon is a Russian cartoon character and it sings the song also from the cartoon – every child (and adult) knows that song ).Host: Discovery #4 – Yagudin is a culinary specialist. His know-how is borsch. But he is rarely at the cooking range, he usually has his breakfast in a hurry – just sandwiches and fried eggs. Alexei: I remember back in my childhood – let me show you – my mom used to organize the sausage events for me (cutting the sausage). Such little crocodiles. Host: The heart, or rather the stomach of Alexei Yagudin belongs to 2 cuisines: Russian and Japanese. He eats fish and rice from the Land of the Rising Sun twice a week. But his real culinary love has a Russian registration. Alexei: I want pickled foods – cucumbers, tomatoes, salads, potatoes, herring…Host: And the final discovery – Yagudin is an incorrigible workaholic.Alexei: It’s strange that this morning my cell phone hasn’t ri… (the cell phone rings) Aha!Host: Now the day is planned by minutes. There is a TV shoot, a trip to the country house, and a rehearsal. He’ll be back home only by midnight. Anastasia Sakhovskaya, Sergei Tochilkin, Natalia Dinova – Vesti in St. Petersburg.>>
【Transcript】Details Interview Details V talk show Broadcasted on CTC-St. Petersburg on May 30, 2005.Host: Julian MakarovGuest: Alexei YagudinTranslated by TanyaIntroduction: Alexei Yagudin, figure skater, Physical Culture Academy graduate. Works for pleasure. Because of the chronic tiredness in his spare time he prefers to sleep. Plans to learn to pilot an airplane. Loves dogs and according to him, unlike people dogs understand everything, don't argue and keep silent. In his childhood he dreamt about becoming a taxi or a truck driver. He's proud of his Olympic victory. Single.JM: Good evening, Lyosha. It happens that we address to each other with informal “You” and I'm really pleased about that. Let's keep up with this good tradition.AY: Thanks for inviting me.JM: Before the program went on air Alexei kept talking about how beautiful our city is. I was surprised to learn (to Alexei) I hope you don't mind if I tell about this. I learned that Alexei was walking on Nevsky Prospekt and as he said, he was literally stopping dumbfounded by how many beautiful people are out there, meaning the girls, of course. Am I right?AY: I am still in shock. As you noted (here Alexei corrects himself changing from formal to informal “You”, our people are truly beautiful. I guess I'll be walking on Nevsky for a couple of more months.JM: The other thing is, I suppose it's a kind of Russian tradition too. Nobody believes that's actually Alexei Yagudin standing on Nevsky and watching people passing by. No one follows you, right? Nobody recognizes you because people can't imagine that's really you.AY: You know I was very surprised and happy about the fact that every day when I go for a walk people recognize me. It's amazing because I spent the last 7 years in America, I quit the elite sport and I wasn't visible. But still, people recognize me and that is very pleasing.JM: Elite sport you say. When you skate I forget about sport, it seems like an art to me. I guess this must be the biggest praise for an athlete?AY: (jokingly) At least I still remember it is supposed to be a sport!JM: I think it's the biggest praise for an athlete because in the end, the certain number of technical elements are not perceived as such. People wouldn't love you so crazy just because of the technical stuff you can do, right?AY: You know, there are such sports like soccer or athletics. There they have certain framework, one reaches the finish line and gets first-second-third-fourth place. In our sport we have both technical and artistic side. An athlete cannot be at the top if one of these aspects of his skating isn't on the high level. I think it's a sport but also an art. There's something from ballet, something from theatre, but it is also a sport. JM: Do you have such situations like, you know, when a tenor sings at the concert being very tense inside , well, let's say not very good singers are like that ?he's tense because he prepares for a very high note. If he manages it, if he sustains a note, he relaxes and everything goes well afterwards. When you skate your program, don't you have the inner hesitation like, here I have to do a quad and if I land it everything is going to be fine?
【老太太传记】 Beauty and Beast - 关于小熊的部分 Part ITwo months after the Olympics in Nagano, in the beginning of May, 1998, I was coming to myself in my family circle after the breach with Ilusha [Kulik]. I was living indolently and at that very moment I began dictating the first chapters of this book. I was in difficult situation and had a lot to think of. More and more often the idea of putting the end to such an intense way of working life was coming to my mind. I thought that during the pause that I had I would have time to relax, to look around and after that I would begin to coach children or would devise something else to do. And though I am not a person to put on airs, I was sure I was in demand. There are so many coaches, but only a few of them people can apply having such a specific question as what to do to become the Olympic champion. No more no less than that. Such perts are extremely rare.I knew that a person looking for me would appear sooner or later. I had never been out of job in my life and even at that moment I was coaching an Italian dance couple. Nevertheless I was going to have a great time that summer. My plans were wonderful ones to freshen myself up. The first thing in the plan was losing weight at any price. It could be possible only if I had enough private time, time to spend for myself. Once on a fine day when I was informing the dictophone either about strange Pasha [Grishuk] tricks or about my work with Torvill and Dean, the smooth flow of my reminiscences was interrupted by a telephone call. It was Lyosha Yagudin. He was making a tour then. He cried: “I want you to be my coach!” I asked why was he going to leave Aleksey Nikolayevich Mishin, his coach at that time in such an indecent way. Lyosha answered: “I wasn’t going to leave Aleksey Nikolayevich, I like him, I consider him to be my only teacher, even more, I consider him to be my second father. But now I can say that our relations are almost broken. Aleksey Nikolayevich likes Plushenko and Urmanov and pays little attention to me. Help me, you have nobody to coach now. You won’t have any problems with me, I will be working hard, I will make all possible efforts!” Having my own unpleasant experience, I asked if he had solved the financial problems and talked all the details over with Mishin. He said that all the problems were solved; Aleksey Nikolayevich had been informed of his leaving. I asked how it was possible to do so before applying for my help. Lyosha’s answer amazed me. “It would have been unfair if I would first have arranged everything and then announced my leaving!” I had never heard anybody in such a situation think if it was fair or not. They usually simply begin secret talks with a new coach. I don’t want to blame anybody, to change a coach for every athlete is always a terribly difficult and responsible act. I drew the line, “Call back in a week, I can say nothing now.” He asked me, disappointed, “In a week?” I answered, being certain, “Not earlier then that.” For a week he was left without Mishin already and without me yet. Probably sad thoughts were worrying him as well as me, as he was then absolutely lonely in a strange country. I could understand what it was like to leave Mishin. He is a great coach and personally I can find only respectful words about his work. Although once I had an unpleasant experience, I have already mentioned it, me and Kulik were concealed from the fact that Urmanov would not take part in the competitions. Even if it was a sly tactics, anyway it was a shameful fact because such a maneuver took place between the members of one and the same team, defending the honor of the same country. After all that was mentioned before I can’t say that I felt any obligations to Mishin. I would have never agreed to coach Moskvina’s students, only if she asked to do it herself. I would never have agreed. There is no such a case.

There are two commentators: Artur Dmitriev and Ernest Serebrennikov (who has zero knowledge about skating, but loves to talk). Here are their comments during Alexei performances:>>(During the opening number, introducing Alexei)AD: And of course, here comes Lyosha. St Petersburg has been waiting for a long time to see him, many people have come to this show on purpose to watch him skate. It's the first time he performs in his home town since his great victory in Salt Lake City.ES: I want to say that this is a unique show because Alexei Yagudin is turning pro and this is his last performance as an eligible skater. This is an official farewell skate for Alexei Yagudin before turning pro, such is a tradition in figure skating. It's a wonderful celebration, Alexei skated three times and got an overwhelming reception. He was very nervous and he was preparing seriously for this event, but he proved it once again that he is a great athlete, a great skater and a wonderful artist."Racing"ES: This program is dedicated to Shumacher.AD: Triple flip - brilliant. I want to remind our viewers that to do the jumps under the show lighting is very difficult because a skater cannot see where to take off and where to land. It (the ability to do so) speaks volumes. I also would like you to pay attention that Lyosha does all the complex jumps with almost no preparation, we don't see the phase where he would take his balance - he just goes and does it out of nowhere. And of course, the masterful technical work with the blade.ES: The audience is ecstatic. There are a lot of programs out there, but it's the first time we see a number dedicated to a great car racer, a number inspired by a great performance at the motor race. We see the elements and how neatly they are done."Overcome"AD: Lyosha was creating this number after 9/11. He asked me to announce that the program was as well dedicated to the children of Beslan. We decided not to mention it at the show because we didn't want to spoil the flow, but I have to say it now because he specifically asked me to do it.ES: Balck clothes and black gloves in a memory of the victims of 9/11, and of the recent events in our country. Watching this performance I was thinking that all the great masters create their works in touch with the current moment. These works have to be sharp and interesting, and modern. I remember, a great movie director Georgy Alexandrovich Tovstonogov was once asked - what does it mean, "modern"? He said - it's a topic that makes people feel excited presented to them in a way that would make their imagination work.AD: Lyosha is skating extremely emotionaly. I haven't seen him skate like that in a long time.(After the program is over)
Artur Dmitriev show report 这是一个俄罗斯熊迷写的观后感, First I have to say that from what I saw on the streets of St Petersburg today, Artur's show had literally no promotion Plushenko's "The Years Together" was on the huge promo screens, on the radio, on the billboards. The info about "Ice Olympus" you could only find if you searched for it. Considering all that, I was surprised to see the arena was 3/4 full (bare spaces in the corners). I imagine it could easily be a full house with proper promotion. But anyway, the crowd was VERY noisy Act 1.All skaters are coming out one by one skating to a pop music medley; Alexei's part is to "Lager than life" by BSB and he does a 3T and spins. The show has two hosts: one is Artur Dmitriev himself, he speaks a bit about every skater, and there was the other guy (who's name is not readable in my notes, lol) who actually introduces the name of the performer. But first Artur says that today is a special celebration of Alexei's skating. And here comes Alexei, performing "Racing". My very first impression: the *smoothest* edges and the speed! The program itself is very familiar to everybody; Alexei put in three triples (don't ask me what they were, lol), executed them perfectly. It seemed like he was probably anxious, or maybe not sure about the reception he would get and that's why he didn't "let it all out". Still, he got a great applause.Artur Dmitriev Jr., introdused by his dad, who was trying to demonstrate us what skaters usually hear from their coaches before they go to perform - lecturing, lol.Little Artur skated to military music, did several double jumps and a 3T(?)-2Lp combo. He seems to be a very smooth skater, pleasing to the eye. IMO, he did well with expression of his music.Don/Hunt skated to powerful piano music by Tchaikovski *I think* in a lovely maroon costumes. They did a split 2 twist, sbs 3T, throw 3S, but all the technical stuff wasn't really clean. Then she fell on a sbs spin (ouch!). They really tried hard, it just didn't work this time. But they had warm reception anyway Sylvia Fontana. Light grey top and pants costume. Music was a mixture of "When a Rhythm Starts to Play" and "Played-a-Life" (the arrangement is different from Alexei's music). Sylvia is so energatic, these type of upbeat numbers suit her perfectly, IMO. Jumps were triple something, 1 axel, and double something (I'm completelly off with jumps today, so be prepared ). Sylvia is all charisma, charm and personality. People loved her a lot! Chait/Sakhnovski. Their new free dance to the music from Bach. Galit has very bright red costume with pants. They had some new lifts, interesting steps, but not enough speed. Cool ending pose. It's hard to say something coherent, I would have to watch thisnumber several times more to form an opinion. Acrobats Armen and Akop. Captain Jack in military costumes. They are not as tricky as Besedin/Polishuk, but kind of fun. Fire explosion from the foot of one of the guys was a bit surprising, lol. Oh, and the other one had his pants off. Or was it the same guy? lol. They don't have a lot of real acrobatics, but try to do skating, like somewhat synchronized footwork, for example; personally, I prefer B/P type of numbers. These guys were popular with the crowd though.
"National Team” show on RTR - Yags playing Hamlet Transcript 虽然下面的TRANSCRIPT没有逐字逐句翻译,但是我想总比听他们叽叽呱呱,我们如堕五里雾中好些吧。(The Hamlet part. Both Alexei and Dmitry stay “on stage”, dressed in costumes) D: Lyosha, Tatiana Anatoljevna Tarasova said she discovered a drama actor in you. Did it took her long to make that “discovery”? A: You know, we both believed there's something hiding inside of me, but it's really deep inside and we had to dig. We were digging not for a day, for a week or for a year, we were digging for several years. After 2-3 years we managed to dig out something, to pull something out of me and to make it a reality. I'm thankful to her because I became... (with as much pathos as you can imagine, lol) an Artist on Ice! (Then goes what was supposed to be a scene from “Hamlet”. Guys read the text from papers, adding there something their own. I recall Alexei was talking about “drinking a vinegar” and “eating a crocodile”. While fighting Dmity was laying a stress on the fact that the 4 time Olympic Champion Pozdniakov taught him fencing. To which Alexei replied he's younger. Then Alexei falls and pretends to die.) D: God grant health to Alexei Yagudin, the unsurpassed Hamlet. That was a guest of our show (gives Alexei a hand to help him up), the wonderful skater, multiple World Champion, the Olympic Champion, Alexei Yagudin. (To Alexei) Thanks! I hope you weren't bored. A: No. It was much fun and I think we should meet in “Blue Beard” next time. D: Okay, agreed on that! Take care. 另外这个SHOW其实很长,我有整个版本,不过还没有制作出来,大家先看连接里那段吧,那段最有意思了!
亚古丁-02冬奥会澳大利亚电视7台ICE DREAM访谈节目TRANSCRIPT Host 1: Welcome! Thanks for coming in, Alexei. Now, how long does it take to put together a gold medal winning performance (he means program, ) like we saw?Alexei: Actually, it's pretty fun. We were just searching for music for like months, and I even tried Swan Lake, and I tried other stuff, quick music and fast music. But finally we just chose that music because I just felt it like that, and I knew I could perform it and express myself. (smiles adorably)Host 1: Now you're given certain elements to perform, certain fixed requirements. Is it a matter of finding a piece of music that fits the pattern of choreography that you've worked out, (Alexei nods) so you might make up the choreography separate to the music? Or do they have to fit together?A: Well actually we just put on the music at the practices, just going for a few hours, and then we're just creating something, finding new moves and new steps, and that's how we create the new program.Host1: You did something in your program where you flicked up the snow. Is that something you've created yourself, or is it something you've nicked from somebody else? (audience, and Alexei, laughs)A: This trick was fun, interesting how we found it, actually. One girl just fell doing like a triple, and she fell and injured her knee. That's how we picked up the ice, I just brought the ice to her for her injured knee. And then Tatiana, my coach just screamed like 'Alexei! Let's just do that!' (he waves excitedly) And that's how this move ended up in my short program.Host1: Is that something you think you could do, you could find other things to do with the ice or you might take further?A: Actually, (he shrugs) I felt like a snow girl skating this program (audience and hosts laugh). But I will find something else, I mean maybe I'll pick something up from the audience. (more laughter).Host2: Now, you use gloves, ar you the only one to use gloves?A: The name of the program is Winter, and we're in Salt Lake, and actually I'm really happy it's snowing right now, and that's the reason for gloves! (hosts and audience laugh, Alexei smiles).Host2: Now you've done MITIM, LofA, Gladiator (Alexei nods and smiles), where to from there? Any thoughts of doing, say, the Boris Yeltsin story? (Alexei and the audience laugh - this is very funny!)A: You know, I have no idea what's going to happen next year, but actually when I skated Gladiator last year I got a present for my birthday, Russell Crowe he signed a picture of himself for me. So I'm just really happy that just *maybe* he watched my skating. (shrugs humbly)Hosts 1&2: Oh yes, yes, he would have! (Alexei grins)Host 2: Now, ice-dancing...A: Actually, the ice-dance is pretty fun, because I have no idea what they do, even if I'm a figure skater. They don't jump, they don't do spins, and all they have to do, they just have to smile (demonstrates broad, cheesy smile - ) and the more they smile the better marks they get! (audience and hosts laugh, the hosts agree, LOL).Host1: Do you think the computer could come to the aid of the judges in your sport? There's been a big scandal of course, it's been well documented (Alexei is smiling and nods), you know what the scandal is, but if you took a video of your performance so the technical side could be plotted on a computer, could one performance be compared to another?
