Simulation of Imitation of the Characteristics of Wind Simulation of Imitation of the Characteristics of Wind Turbine Based on DC Motor with Matlab Abstract -- In order to demonstrate the wind turbine in the laboratory, this paper first analyzed the operation principles, the power and torque characteristics of the wind turbine and direct current (DC) motor, then it investigated the operation characteristics of the wind turbine in contrast to those of the DC motor. The torque imitation scheme was provided, which imitates the torque characteristics of wind turbine by controlling the armature current of DC motor. The scheme has good performance and high feasibility. At last, the simulation of wind turbine operation characteristics was performed, the simulation was done under two typical conditions of variable wind speed and variable machine rotational velocity. The characteristics curves are presented in the paper. The simulation curves are highly consistent with theoretical datum. The torque imitation scheme of wind turbine characteristics can be conveniently used in the study of wind power generation in the laboratory. INTRODUCTION The initial investigation and research conducted in the laboratory could actively enhance the development of wind power technology. Because of the limited conditions, there is no wind turbine or wind farm in most laboratories, which leads to great difficulties for the laboratory research of wind power technology. Consequently, it is great important to explore the ways to imitate wind turbine characteristics for indepth study of wind power technology in the laboratory. It is important for the promotion of experimental wind turbine technology and applications [1-8]. It can also bring significant economic and social benefits. In recent years, with wind power technology having gained fast development, many advanced technologies proposed from the laboratory, such as variable blade control, variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) generation, direct –drive without gear box have been applied to actual spots[12]. A double-fed induction generator (DFIG) as a load connects with a direct current motor (DC motor), which imitates the wind turbine [4]. However, imitation of the characteristics of the wind turbine was not discussed in detail. Although the rough control strategy, hardware platform and monitor software for the wind turbine imitation system were created [1], the results of imitation can’t clearly illuminate that the direct current motor simulating wind turbine is feasible.
