【X-Factor】X Factor contestant has new hope for music success EVER since she first appeared on our TV screens in The X Factor two years ago, Phoebe Brown has always had her eye on conquering the pop world. And despite things not working out with her talent show group, Hope, the former Fullbrook School pupil this year joined Girls Can’t Catch – a three-piece hoping to be the next Sugababes. Signed to Fascination Records, a sub-label of Polydor, the band are made up of 18-year-old Phoebe, from Addlestone, 19-year-old Jess Stickley and 25-year-old Daizy Agnew. As well as supporting two high profile bands on tour, Girls Can’t Catch have appeared on chat shows, a movie soundtrack and performed at a film premiere. Phoebe said: “It’s amazing, one of the best years of my life. “We have been on two tours already with Girls Aloud and The Jonas Brothers. “I was with Hope for a year-and-a-half after the show but it didn’t work out. “There’s only a certain amount of time you can try. I was approached for an audition for Girls Can’t Catch. “They were looking for a three-piece band to be the new Sugababes. “It got knocked down from 20 people to 10 to five and then the final three. We get on so well and haven’t had one argument.” Between performing their debut single Keep Your Head Up on Alan Titchmarsh’s show and the Hollyoaks Music Show, Phoebe has taken some time to watch this year’s X Factor and see new acts following in her footsteps. She said: “Joe [McElderry, this year's winner] is a really great guy. We are on the same label as Girls Aloud and so I was really happy that Cheryl [Cole, McElderry's mentor] won, too. Joe has got a great voice.” After a successful year, Phoebe is hoping 2010 will be just as exciting. Although the band will not be touring, they will be performing at various locations and will kick off the year by promoting their new single Echo, which has already made it onto Radio 1’s Christmas playlist. “I have spent a lot of time travelling around, up and down the country. But I love coming back to Surrey,” Phoebe said. “There will be a lot of promotion next year and a lot of hard work but it is the best job. I couldn’t do anything else. “Seeing yourself on television now is completely different to The X Factor. But it will always feel a bit surreal, although you do get used to it.” Although she has no plans to move out just yet, Phoebe will be back home for Christmas to see her family and friends. She added: “I love it at home. Everyone takes a break at Christmas – even Cheryl Cole. “It will be great to be back at home.”
