He attended Braddan Village Primary and Murray's Road schools, Oswald Road Primary in Manchester, Humpy Bong and Cribb Island State schools in Brisbane Australia, and Scarboro State School in Queensland Australia. Barry's first guitar was a ninth Christmas gift from his parents, which he learned to play with open chord tuning. Barry was influenced by The Mills Brothers, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, and Stevie Wonder. Barry lives in Miami Beach and Buckinghamshire and enjoys swimming, boating, tennis and reading. 中国唱片业走过百年 《音像世界》2005年第1期　唱片是人类最伟大的发明之一，这个评价丝毫不为过。 　　1877年，爱迪生在美国新泽西州成功地制作出了第一台用锡箔为记录材料贴在滚筒上的留声机，录下并重现了他所说的“玛丽有一只小羊”这句话，——这是人类第一次对自己的声音进行存储和还原。次年4月，爱迪生即在百老汇大街成立了自己的留声机公司，生产用锡箔卷成圆筒，然后涂上石膏制成的唱片。 　　——以上便是世界唱片的诞生。而唱片传到中国，则还要等上那么几十年。 　2004年11月29日下午,在中国唱片业的发源地上海,庆祝中国唱片百年座谈会，在上海徐家汇“中唱小红楼”举行。京剧大师梅葆玖、琵琶大师刘德海、越剧泰斗傅全香、著名作曲家陈钢等济济一堂。 小红楼是百代唱片公司办公旧址，也是中华人民共和国国歌诞生地。从《举鼎观画》开始，百代公司和后来的中唱上海公司一直在这幢红墙红瓦的三层小洋楼里办公，直到２００１年搬离。 “唱片纪录了中国百年音乐史，弥足珍贵。中国唱片是中国民族文化很重要的一部分，值得我们好好回顾，好好留存，”梅葆玖先生说。他小时候在家里摆弄父亲梅兰芳先生的唱片，大多印有百代公司的黄公鸡标志，因此对音乐和戏曲发生兴趣。后来自己录制唱片，也是在小红楼中。 “这里是中国民族音乐的‘名人堂’。从聂耳、梅兰芳开始，一辈又一辈的音乐家、戏曲家都在这里工作录音。”作曲家陈钢说，在中国唱片业百年之际，要做的事情很多，不仅是回顾历史，更要赶快保存像小红楼这样的音乐旧址、文化遗产；要面对中国唱片业的许多困难，发挥民族音乐产业的生命力。 中唱总公司经理赵大新说，中国唱片业的百年，几乎就是中唱公司的百年。中唱公司近百年来积累和珍藏了１２万张唱片母版，包括一批旷世孤品和艺术典藏，成为中国现代音乐历史最完整的纪录。 中国唱片总公司的前身是东方百代唱片公司，成立于１９０７年，也是中国第一家民族唱片公司。百代唱片一成立，就灌录推出京剧大师谭鑫培的《洪洋洞》《卖马》等唱片，畅销轰动，从此拉开中国独立录制生产唱片的序幕。 解放后，中国唱片在废墟上起步，再创辉煌，推出首张唱片《解放区的天》。１９５８年，中唱总公司和各地分公司纷纷成立，形成中国唱片业第一家规模化、集团化的大型音像企业。而上世纪９０年代，中唱广州公司也在全国率先开始探索中国流行音乐，推出了李春波、陈明等一批歌手。 迄今，中唱公司已经为７００多家文艺团体、４０００多位艺术家灌制唱片、录音带、光盘节目达５.３万多片（盒）号，音像制品销售超过１０亿张。 据悉，“纪念中国唱片业百年”系列活动将在１２月全面展开。１２月２日，中宣部将在北京召开庆祝中国唱片业百年大型座谈会，中唱公司将同时推出限量２万套的《中国唱片百年经典》大型音像制品，其中收纳２０张光碟，囊括歌曲、戏曲、器乐作品。１２月下旬，“纪念中国唱片业百年”大型展览将在上海、北京、广州、成都和深圳同时举行。（完）
