22.1.9查尔兄弟在S3公路老图 Kruger Safari Day 21: Photo of the Day – Classic Kruger Headed out towards Paul Kruger gate this morning to take the S3 where leopards had been reported. After fifteen minutes or so we came upon a pregnant hyena with a youngster in tow and got some good photos before heading on. Twenty minutes later along the S3 we found not a leopard but two male lions heading purposefully along the road. We were able to get ahead of them and stay ahead photographing as they made their way towards us. Several OSV’s were in attendance but everyone gave each other space for the sighting. One of the males looked as if he had been in a fight and had a tooth hanging loose but I have since discovered that the two are brothers known as the Charleston Males and the tooth has been hanging there for almost two years having been dislodged by a kick from a giraffe. Quite remarkable as it looks as if it would fall off with a simple brush of the paw. The photo today is of this Charleston boy in a classic Kruger moment. No prizes for guessing where it was taken! A great start to the day but there was more to come. An hour and a half later we headed down the S65 and had our second wild Dog sighting of the trip – a pack of nine dogs sleeping by the side of the road. We couldn’t believe our luck. They were piled on top of each other trying to sleep but, even tired, they could not keep still. They fussed and fidgeted, got up, laid down, raised heads, went back to sleep and changed places. We stayed for twenty minutes but it became obvious that they were not likely to move for some time so we moved on. On the way back to camp we stopped off at Lake Panic hide to get some decent bird photos including some of the resident Darter. The afternoon drive was again very poor yielding only some photos of an elephant herd. What happened to the ‘great sightings’ down south? Apart from the wild dogs we had much better luck north of Satara. Still, another wild Dog sighting is more than we had hoped for.
